Re: Compression Ratios...

Well he used to race his chevy wagon at New England Dragway back in the late 70's early 80's. His nick name was cool breeze and his car was called something like, super mouse, super mini mouse, i gotta asked my father. Anyways, he and a bunch of his racing buddies used to go there and compete against one another. All his buddies used big blocks , while he only used a mere 350 small block. But it's they way he did things with the small block that had him destroying all the big blocks. He just had the "knack" for this stuff. I really wish i had the chance to meet him, would of been able to learn alot of things from him. He did most the stuff by hand, like port and polishing the intake and exhaust ports, at 2am in the morning. Pure dedication. His buddies had nitrous powered motors and still couldn't hold a candle to his N/A. The one thing that stood out the most that my pops told was one night, some idea just popped up in my grandfathers head. So he went over to a home supply store and bought about $20 worth of items and built a spacer for the carb. The amazing part, no bullshit, was when he went to dyno the motor. He picked up 52hp from that spacer that he made. A-fu**in-mazing!!! I really wanted to meet this him, now i see where i get some of this stuff from. It's in the blood. Also, the car was an 83 Chevy Wagon (big car, looks like a caprice) had about 650hp and ran low 10's. He was ahead of his time, because he didn't have much money like some of the big dogs who he went up against that he was beating. Pretty amazing guy.

Re: Compression Ratios...

man that's a great story. I hope you pull off the 305 build, it would be awsome to have a hefty 305 around here. I'm getting an ls1 as soon as I can afford it, it's just too much money for me to build a 305. Did you ever figure out your gear ratio, I saw where you posted over at thirdgen?

Haven't heard that name in years.

Speaking of hefty 305's, I'm hoping pretty soon to get back to work on mine, do a lttle cam dance and go from 275 to hopefully somewhere in the 290's, but again quite a bit of torque (50 ft lbs)

Not yet. I still gotta but all that crap on my car now that I have everything. Just been really cold lately. I mean COLD!!! I will test it as soon as i get THE ROC on the road, i will see what i have. I've thought about LT1/LS1 plenty of times already, but i really appreciate this motor, i kinda like be the underdog.

Thanks man. I love this place. It can be a very good environment (except when we get some trolls in here). I've learn you gotta read, research and get your facts stright before you jump the band wagon. I know people who think the do one thing and all of the sudden you have an Enzo (borla chip kid). I guess thats what happens to certain people who have mommy buy them $10000 car for nothing (not addressed to all who have parents who do this, just him). He's what we call a modest prick.

Re: Compression Ratios...

No the day before the swap, I yanked it to see what I had to work with. Nobody had a electric adv. stock dist., they were all vacuum. At the swap I got a the MAF and a extra snorkel with it for $20. Man even the snorkel you can't find for less than $30.

So I put the dist. back in with a extra ign. module, coil and rotor. Started a million times, ran, drove once then parked so the salt wouldn't eat it, plus I yanked insurance on it for the winter.. Wen't to move for snow removal and it was pulling it's horseshit again, haven't touched it since (month?)

Re: Compression Ratios...

Damn, that sucks monkey balls. So do you still think it's the dist.? I remember when I 1st got my car, it started everytime and ran perfectly on the way home. As soon as i got to the house (all the way from NH), she started pulling and jerking like shit, like she was going into shock. Couldn't figure out what the dam problem was. Pulled the plugs, and they beyond fouled out. Must of been the original plugs (not really, but damn they were old). I know you've already checked the plugs, so what is wrong with the dist.?

Re: Compression Ratios...

Bad shaft bushing. So it hops all over the damn place unit the rotor finally twacks the carbon tabs in the cap, grounds it out and fries the coil's carbon button and then poof, terrible spark.

Re: Compression Ratios...

Damn, that stinks. So you have to get one from an '85 Tpi? Can you get an aftermarket dist.? Shouldn't be as much as an OEM one, i think.
