Holy hell -- it's a STUPID VIDEOGAME SYSTEM!!

to be completely honest I have always been a nintendo fan and after switching teams and buying a PS2 instead of a gamecube have learned my lesson... I'm waiting for nintendo.


I was checking out some 360 graphics at wal-mart today and to be completely honest I think the gamecube has better graphics than it. The game that was being played reminded me of the graphics in legend of zelda windwaker. Now if these supposed next generation consoles can't beat the graphics of a game that is already 3-years old then forget it. (this game was also supposedly in hi-def mode as well)

Another thing I hate is the fact that these companies are trying to make a all-in-one system. Meaning dvd/cd/video game/etc. Well to be quite honest I already have a quite nice entertainment center. I don't need a knew one, all i want is a video game and I think they need to offer a bare bones console of just video gaming not everything else.

wtf are you talking about? I'm sure most people use computers for alot more than playing a video game, and i'm also sure that most people didn't wait in line for 12 hours to get a computer.

Helps me with my studies (vital actually)
Holds boatloads of movies and music albums (all high quality encodings)
Allows me to watch foreign TV shows (Top Gear etc...)
It’s hooked up to the TV and surround sound so I can watch all of the above properly
It holds all my photos
It helps edit all my home movies and photos
I use it for shopping, banking and other financial needs
I get all my news on it
I use it to argue with people on the internet about the usefulness and value of computers
.....


Oh and yeah the vacuum and dish attachments are on the way

When you buy an XBox or XBox360, you are buying a computer. You are buying a computer that has a sole purpose of gaming. You can modify it, and use it as a regular computer, for cheaper than the off-the-shelf systems. I don't see him bitching about iPod video, or GPS systems, or software even. He is bitching about the cost of A computer. That's like me bitching about paying $3k for my fiance's car when I payed $4k for mine. Or bitching about paying $80 for running shoes when I paid $120 for climbing/walking shoes. It's like whiping before you poop, it just doesn't make sense!

If I wanted to bitch about GPS systems or iPod videos or whatnot, I would've started a thread doing just that. This is about videogame systems though. And the fact that these are videogame systems, and NOT computers or GPS or whatnot. And technically my bitch was about people feeling the need to rob others for these TOYS. The secondary issue evolved into the fact that these things, as toys, should be just that. I don't doubt it's nice for people who DO use them in multiple scenarios, but for the majority of us, we really don't need all the whizbang features they pack into these systems, because they just raise the price and add to the potential for failure. That's why I was noting my recognition of Nintendo for their effort to keep the system as what it should be -- a VIDEOGAME system, concentrating entirely on gaming. And you know what? The Gamecube DID end up being less expensive, even though it was probably the most technically superior of the four! Also, of the Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2, which ones experienced the most hardware problems -- problems ultimately NOT related directly to the GAMING part of the systems? Here's a hint: only two of them tried to directly incorporate harddrives and DVD support and various other non-essentials.

This being said, I don't necessarily have a reason to bitch about other stuff, because it's focusing on what it was designed to do, so (ideally) all you're paying for is exactly what you need. I don't need a system with all kinds of features to be able to modify it -- I've modded my Saturn, my Genesis, and my Dreamcast -- but I modded them toward gaming.

Oh yeah, and the Xbox really ISN'T less than the cost of a computer if you're one of the people trying to get a hold of the thing before the holidays

The only main reason I would buy the 3rd gen of the Xbox would be for Halo3. As for them being used for other things.... My first cd player was the ps1 a few years after it came out and my 1st dvd player was the ps2 which i paid 30 dollors for about 2 months back. For a college student that doesnt have a job (its not the fact im not looking, i just cant find one) and had easy homework that can be done in a few hour or so, gamesystems are great. They are just way to over priced.

Spend money or wait in line for a football game/tickets. What a dumb sack of shit whoever has done that. Why waste the time and money when you can watch it on TV?

How about seeing somebody in concert. Dumbest idea I've ever heard of and only idiots do that! It's much cheaper to just buy the CD.

Oh, new heads, lets say GT-40 for a Mustang, can cost up to $1,000. Boy, whoever has spent money on that is a dumbass. They paid a grand for some metal to put on top of their car engine and all it does is give it a little horsepower?

Also, whoever spends over $50 on shoes here is dumber than a sack of rocks. Why spend so much on those new pair of Air Jordans when a pair from Wal-Mart will help your feet get from place to place?

Oh yeah, if you've spent money on a nice speaker/surround sound system, you're an idiot. Why spend that much money on that stuff when it's cheaper to just put on some headphones?

So when it comes to the price for getting something, before you bitch about it I'm sure you've pissed your money away on something you thought was well worth the money.

As for all the "special features" on the X-box you're moaning about. I bet people said the same thing about DVDs.
"Oh, it doesn't look THAT much better and who wants those speical features anyway?"
Now, people hate to watch movies on VHS and studios make millions each year re-releasing movies that have nothing but new special features. I'm also sure many of you have blown your money on at least one re-released movies with nothing but new features about how the director got an idea while taking a piss back stage.

As for the argument, oh it better wash my house, oh it better do this, better do that, blah blah blah shut your hole wang chung. An intake manifold for a 5.0, a good one, can cost as much or much more than a 360. Hmmm a hunk of metal or a computer, which do you think can do more there Mr. Wizard?

So before anybody goes and points anymore fingers, remember, four more of those fingers are pointing back at you.

P.S. I didn't mean it when I said you're dumb for doing any of the above. I'm just making a point that people spend their money on things they want to spend it on. To some, it may seem stupid, but to them it's money well worth spent.

It really is sad how much people will spend on worthless things. But for some people money isn't a thing and they just like to bitch about things. I mean in the past five years I have only spent about $100 on all my gaming stuff. The problem is that people are impluse buyers. They will just buy the newest and best thing without shoping around or waiting for the price to drop. Hell I picked my PS2 up for $35. I borrow the games off my roommates cause I don't feel like spending $50 on a game that will be out of date and pointless in 2-3 years. Most everything I buy is used no matter what it is with a few exceptions. People just need to conserve there money....
