Re: LS1 - Block
i dont know if any of this means anything to u guys or if im just post whoring, but im lookin at an older gm high tech performance magazine right now. in it is a 99 SS with a 422 c.i. 700 horsepower LS1 and an 02 with a 382 c.i. 660 horse LS1. (both with N2O)
The black one was dynoed at 505 hp at the wheels. it has 5.3 truck heads to get higher compression from the smaller chambers.it uses a stock LS6 intake,a ported stock throttle body,a stock mass air sensor, and stock rocker arms.i just wanted to point out how may stock parts he used. for the record it was resleeved. he runs 10.5 at 136 with the nitrous. obviously he could have gone more extreme with it, but there r 2 big reasons i like it.he drives it 200 miles a week to work and back, and its a great example of how well engineered these engines r and wut their potential is. the other one is an all bore engine that gets 24 mpg on the highway. 476 hp at the wheels with no juice. |

Re: LS1 - Block
At least in my state (get that out of the way) if you dont have to take echeck, you could run a 2000hp topfuel dragster on the street if you had turnsignals, headlights, bumpers, etc.

Re: LS1 - Block
yup, my uncle had a 69 camaro, an original yenko ZL1 actually that he traded a set of tires for back in the 70's. the motor was long gone, in some guys racing boat, and it was already mini tub'd. so he turned it into an all out drag car 1050hp 500cid big block, ran mid 8 second quarter mile times, and was completely street legal in richmond, cuz they dont have emissions testing. it had seat belts, headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and big drag slicks with tred on them. we used to go out on I95 in it and embarrase sports car drivers

I will also be running the LS6 intake, ported stock throttle body, stock rocker arms, etc.... I have an 85mm MAF, but I wish I didn't. At least for my current mods. I have a dream......500+ RWHP. No poweradder. 402. Mileage wise.....My Trans Am gets roughly the same mileage as my 2001 Grand Am GT, if that tells you anything.

actually with a stick thats closer to 600 - 615 at the crank which I consider totally doable with the right head/cam package.

Re: LS1 - Block
I am actually thinking I will be closer to 475 RWHP. I will not have the 90mm FAST intake and throttle body for it right away.
I have heard of guys getting 550 RWHP with their 402/408 set-ups with higher compression and decent/good heads with a big cam. I will be running AFR 225's (flow is 320cfm at .600) and a bumpstick that is rather large. 248/254 .629/.622 113. Anything 475+ RWHP and I will be happy. I am not going to be running high compression, just right around stock. I want to be semi-friendly to drive on the street.
