I think the new impala SS is getting the LS3 V8 that is also seeing some entertainment in the Grand Prix GXP this season. Front Wheel Drive american cars just sounds too odd to me. Thank god BMW is sticking to RWD cars...

BS the SC3.8L Imp runs mid to high 14s stock and the limiter is at 126mph, so that may be why you blew by him.

Or he wasn't going WOT.

Good kill i guess.

The impalas can be modded just as easily as the grand prix, monte carlo, and regal versions of the SC 3.8L. I know a guy running 12.2@113mph in his 2004 impala with just a few mods. That is performance. The car may not be fast stock but the engine is capable of supporting alot of power without having to change the internals.

RWD cars that only need 3.2 liters and an I6 to run low 13s, high 12s.

why did you quote me jeff? i didn't say anything relative to what your reply is saying. anyways the altima SE-R also runs mid to low 14's stock as well. and standard 3.5 SE's runs the same times but will trap higher ( closer to 100 mph ) even the extremely inefficient ( by japanese standards ) 3.8 sohc 3.8 from mitsu in the new eclipse traps at 101mph in a 3500lb eclipse. i never argued about their potential because you are perfect prove of the engines ability but its very very detuned from the factory and i wonder why would gm market the car as is.

Re: Re: Re: 3000GT Vs. Impala SS

whoops didn't mean to quote you.

I was calling BS on the SL taking a 3.8LSC from 110 to 140 by two cars+

I am guessing the car is detuned for durability.

Re: 3000GT Vs. Impala SS

i wouldnt call bs, on it.

they have similar numbers, there is aero dynamics and gearing and other things that come into play up top.

with vehicles so close in numbers, not wise to call bs.

if you heard RX-7 out ran a supra on the freeway. would you call bs? or say, its a street race, lots of factors involved and its possible?

know what i mean?

Re: Re: 3000GT Vs. Impala SS

For one thing their limiter is at 126mph so a race from 110-140 isn't exactly fair.

[quote=3KSL95][quote]2 turbos and still only makes 315 tq? Not trying to bash the supra but c'mon that's more of an insult than anything

yes yes i know HP wise stock 5.0's weren't all that great but. Torque wise they were pretty good. That's what i was referring to. There aren't many vehicles that a stock 5.0 can hang with. I know that. But the fact that a twin turbo supra only has 315 ft.'lbs of torque is strange. But as youngvr4 pointed out they are detuned from the factory. I would guess for reliablility reasons. But still, damn they should make a lot more than that i would think. how big is a supra engine?

3.0L I6 DOHC, 2jzgte

The 3.8 runs out of steam high up, the roots type blower on it is very restrictive high up. Good low down, bad high up, perfect for light to light racing really really sucky for high speed runs.

Re: Re: Re: 3000GT Vs. Impala SS

Its hard to do a highway run to 140 when you hit the limiter.
The M90s can be highway monsters. My blower is completely stock and I pull on a manual Z51 C6 from 60-130mph

Re: 3000GT Vs. Impala SS

Why is it bs? the damn thing weighs 3600 pounds as apposed to my 3200 and with my mods our hp numbers are near the same, im standard im sure it was an auto, even in a stop light race im pretty sure i would spank it. Oh and 90REDGT the supra engine is a 3.0 inline six.
