Re: I don't want to hear anyone complaining about GM anymore.

i must agree with the general opinion here:too much electronic crap.dont hate me- i promise im a chevy guy-but my last car was a 97 mustang gt.my official opinion on it:for all the modern, electrinic and cosmetic "improvements"it was still a rattle trap like a 67 mustang.theyre quick, and not not bad looking, but as soon as u drive them like ur supposed to they break.now ive come back to the good side and bought an 01 1500 silverado.my official opinion on this one:its a chevy pickup.basically the same coments as the newer stang:looks new, acts old.i have a 76 2wd c10 and they both have THE SAME probems.not really problems, just quirks.little noises from the lifters sometimes, gas guages with a mind or their own, and for some reason u dont need the key to start either of them lol. thats wut it means to be a chevy guy or ford guy or wutever u r.u can live with these things.for those of u that want perfect vehicles:keep dreaming.i like both of my trucks and the fact that theyre better looking and generally faster than their respective ford counterparts.i too just had to vent a little, sorry.but to get back on topic here, im gonna paraphrase the thread starter and say stop complaining about gm.once a chevy pickup always a chevy pickup, be it 51, 71, or 2001. i wouldnt have it any other way.

Hehhehe I forgot, we also had another 78 and a 51 chvy pickup. So, let us recap the trucks I or my dad have had in my lifetime. 1-1951, 2-1978's, 1-1979, 1-1981,1-1984, and now one 2002

Re: I don't want to hear anyone complaining about GM anymore.

Cold start knock serious problem.
Tailgate cables minor problem.
My problem, I could forgive GM for the cold start knock but tailgate cables?????????
Even though I would much rather have the Tailgate cables. My truck has both problems. I did get my intermediate steering shaft replaced. Next problem? driveshaft yolk? fuel guage? electric window regulator? God knows. 2001 Silverado 57700 mi.

What was the problem that made them replace your intermediate steering shaft? I have heard very little about the problem.

I took my truck in to have the front end alined. The truck pulled to the right. I could feel a slight loosness when driving over bumps. My gm dealer told me that I needed to have the relay rod (with the inner tie rods) and the intermediate steering shaft replaced. Total cost with alinement was $710.00. Truck drives good now. I looked up the steering rod on chevy truck world.com and its yet another problem. The relay rod I can see, Its like a drag link on a Ford. The steering shaft is something that should last. I guess it starts to klick at the slip yolk. Regreasing is the common fix. The shaft has to be removed to do this. I bought my truck used with a extended warrenty that cost $1300, I wondered if the warrenty was worth it. I`m glad I have it. The repair cost me $310 warrenty paid $400.
My truck is not new so I do expect repairs but I am uneasy about this truck. Lots of electrical stuff on it but the mechanical parts are what I see failing. BEAN COUNTERS!!!!!!!!

The steering shaft problem is across the board with GM products. Has been for years. Had the shaft replaced on our Bonneville, then repacked three times in 80k miles for looseness. Intrigue was way worse. Tahoe had to have it done, now I feel it in my HD. My buddy's 1500 is doing it. I'm going to let it go as I know what it is but a loose clunky feeling in the steering hurts the perception of quality imediately. It is felt just off center either way and on light bumps. It is due to excessive tolerance in the splined shaft, and unless something has changed, if you get it replaced, you are getting the same part that will feel the same once the grease needs to be repacked. This involves R&R.

It's that great GM feeling.

My passenger front feels like its going to pop off sometimes when going over speed bumps, is that the problem?

Nah...if a dog can run on three legs so can a Chevy truck.

Mercedes-Benz recalled 1.3 million cars in about a month ago. They lost around $1,000,000,000 in the first quarter (same as GM but they are much smaller). VW lost over $1,000,000,000 last year in the U.S.

German quality isn't what is used to be.
