For me, the most important mod would be to upgrade from the stock stereo system. I tried the speed/performance thing, but it cost too much free time under the hood.

Fair enough point about the suspension, but it also depends on what your starting point is
If you're starting with a WRX, you already have decent suspension, so adding a set of coilovers wouldn't require a major component overhaul.

But hey, if suspension is out, then so should a sound system be, since you can't just buy a head unit
