Yup they have a larger core diameter, that delievers more current to the plugs. I have good success with Magnecor wires. There is also Vitek, and Nology.
As you ad more mods, they compliment each other. Build on it.

By using higher grade spark plugs and wires, how much more more abuse will the engine take in the long run, or is it even a significant effect?

It's not a matter of abuse (I think you mean engine related mods). A stronger spark will make more efficient combustion, resulting in a stronger stroke=more power & reduced emmisions.

Ok, but are Iridiums and the bigger wires worth sinking money into this early in my building stages? The only engine mod I have done is the CAI, and I dont want to sink cash into something that wont affect performance as much as it would if I waited till later stages.

i was looking at the iridium plugs but the only problem with that is the only place by me that has them is auto zone and i refuse to go there cause they are assholes and i'll prob do the same time. from your experience would you say magnecor is the best out of the 3 you listed or is magecor the only ones you've used

Plugs are easy to get on the web. Here's where i got mine.

If you don't mind spending about $240 on wires then go for the Nology's. From what I've heard the price doesn't justify the gains. I know Tibs that have Vitek & Magecor. Much more affordable. I went for the Mgnecor's because of price & reputation.

Re: New to the scene.

If changing the spark plug wires results in more efficient combustion, does that mean it will also improve fuel economy?

I should. But How measureable depends on your other mods & driving habits.
