rotary engines can be both NA or turboed , and yes they actually have cylinders... the RX7s and RX8 have 2 cyliners and the racing 787B and the cosmo or something (only avaliable in japan some years ago) had 3 rotor engines... The RX8 is Naturally aspirated... it already makes a lot of HP just wait till they turbo it... I think that the "gentelman's agreement" of power limit on cars produced in japan is about to be broken... nissan already claims they'll officially say 400 or more HP for the new GTRs , honda has a lot of HP in the new NSX while they say it's 276 anyway , when mazda puts a turbo to this RX8 engine they'll have problems with that too..

Actually rotary engines do not have cylinders, they have trichoidial chambers

if you need a girl to further clairify your rotary engine questions, feel free to ask...

Back on the subject of evo vs rx8 the rx8 would be my choice most definately. the new Renesis motor has been redesigned and now has peripheral intake and exhaust ports and supposedly worked out all the bugs of the 13B's. And unlike regular motors with pistons, rotory engines don't have to make linaer motion and turn it into rotating motion. Rotory motors are all rotational motion with no loss of power. rotorys were specifically build for racing. At 1.3L naturaly aspirated it produces 250 hp at 8300rpm(I love high revers )The 2.0 L evo produces 270hp with turbo. To me they cannot be compared. the rx8 is also much lighter and with rwd the pull much better at top speeds. Awd systems are so heavy are hard to drift and thats no fun either. well thats my 2 cents.

y compare a car made aggressive and possibly 4 racing (EVO) with the Rx-8, made for family ppl (Rx-8) overall population?

Because both of these cars can be easily tuned for racing. The EVO is not "raced prefered" nor is the RX-8 "family prefered". Both are 4-door cars with tuned engines. Equivalent performace numbers also point out the fact that these two cars are comparable.

Realistically, the comparison should be between the WRX and EVO, but the RX-8 has some characteristics that neither the WRX or EVO has. Such as a rotary, more coupe like physque, and other stuff. In my opinion, it's the RX-8 all the way.

I am not a car enthusiast like a lot here...

I am more of a bike guy myself, but needed and wanting a car for rainy days and lazy days... I decided to start looking around. It didn't take me long to come up with a short list of cars to pick from.

Today I went out and road in the RX-8 and the Evo. Both brand new and both under 25miles.

I took them on the same roads and tried to keep the same speed in some of te turns to get a good idea of how they handled as well as how they came out of the turns.

RX-8 just felt smoother. It felt like it was holding the road better even though the Evo has the AWD. Not only that but with the RX-8 I felt every bit of the road. but I didn't feel each and every pebble or any shaking in the frame. The Evo had a little shaking, a lot more body roll, and every pebble was like a knife up my back in comparison.

Now power is a different story. In the vo I couldn't find an RPM range that didn't have power. It was as if the gas pedal was a go button and that was all there was to it. There was no lag when I pressed the gas nor was there any lack of power coming out of a turn or shifting through gears. The RX-8 on the other hand made me watch my RPMs and gears more. I could easily find the power range RPMs, I just had to stay within and everything was sweet.

For me the RX-8 wins the choice in overall car by the slightest of margins, however I am looking for comfort in a car as well as power. Afterall, all these cars can be modified to get more power then we ever need. I am a corner junkie it's why I ride a bike. Not to mention neither of the cars could keep up with my bike. So speed didn't truly impress me in either of them.

Exclamation

Since the EvoVII was never released in america then we have to go on the Evo VIII specs. The published times are 4.9 0-60 and 13.4 for 1/4 mile. The RX-8 is rated at 5.5 and 14.5. The Evo VIII has the upper hand on speed. But the RX-8 has a PERFECT 50/50 weight ratio and it's barely slower naturally aspirated. Once Mazdaspeed comes out with a turbokit for it (and it's a for sure thing) the car will spank the rest of the market, even the new Supra waiting for 05. I love AWD, but in a lap or two around Laguna SECA I think the RX-8 would have it beaten.
