Re: New exhaust system?
The sound of a Flowmaster system is simply a matter of personal opinion. My brother had a 2001 5.2L 5spd. I want to say he had 40 series on it; but i cant be sure. anyway it sounded great. i never heard a bad comment of any kind.
one thing to keep in mind; dodge trucks are going to be the loudest of any. next comes chevy. any respectable muffler shop will back that up |

Re: New exhaust system?
EVERYBODY SHUT UP!!!!!!! if you want performance first; so be it. if you want looks first, go ahead and put gay ass fake duals on it. whatever floats your boat. But the point of an aftermarket exhaust was originally meant to increase exhaust flow by simply decreasing restriction. the sound is a bi-product that many automotive enthusiasts-including myslef-happen to like and enjoy showing off. so decide whether you want looks, performance, or loud and go for it.

Re: New exhaust system?
sorry to bring back an old thread, but:
mufflers alone dont make drone...different bends and size pipes and mufflers can contribute to drone...i have flowmaster super 40s(duals) on a chevy 1500 with a 5.3....i have absolutely NO DRONE...ive had straight pipes same truck NO DRONE...its all in the design of the system... bleeddodge: flowmaster does not suck...and another thing the whole deal you made up about the flowmaster muffler not flowing because the exhaust came out at the hole in your exhaust only when there was a flowmaster on the pipes...thats called backpressure...thats where torque comes from...a little bit of that is good...the thrush had no backpressure.....thats why it flows better...you pick any other muffler, ie magnaflow, flowtech, corsa, anything itll do the exact same thing the flowmaster did...

I agree with you, I just added a super 40 to another car of mine a 75 Olds convertible and it had a little sound to it until I went back and had the shop turn the pipe slightly to the side instead of straight into the payment. The noise went away and it performs and sounds perfect!
Try to find a shop that knows how to properly tune and exhaust system! I have Flowmasters on every car now and my teenage son says everybody at school wants his sound! I think it depends on personal preference, I prefer to ge with an orginal that's still made in American not some China village that is powered by oxen. |

Re: New exhaust system?
My red truck has been straightpiped for the past 2 months to save controversy on the street. I like how it sounds as well. As long as I have the tailpipes on to put the sound behind the truck, I can live with the sound level.
5.3 and no drone? I believe you. It doesn't bark either does it?

Re: New exhaust system?
A guy I know had a '01 5.3 Silverado that had deltaflow 40 series on it and it would rumble but it was quiet. Reminded me of a old car that had headers and normal mufflers. He eventually took those mufflers off and stuck pipes in the way, but left the cats behind. It sounded real good like that. 4 inch boomtubes coming out the back too, made it resonate pretty good...
