Re: radio will not shut off when car turned off
Ok I reread this whole thread. Some people are mistaking what is going on. This person can;t get there radio to shut off period with out turning it off and that includes just shutting the iginition off which kills the 12v supply. If the radio would shut off with the engine it would be a RAP problem. But in this case its the radio won;t shut off period with out manually turning it off and that is a problem. In the owners manual it explains about the RAP but it does not say " you must turn it off manually every time even after the 10 min, opening the door" ETC.....

Ok...that link that you provided everyone helps...yes. That's great! But I was just saying that I skip that step, b/c I have never had any problems with the airbags being deployed. I've never accidentially crossed any wires or anything.
![]() As for me being an internet bad @$$....no....I dont have to be all "built" and have people fear me. I just felt like I was being smacked down and it felt like I didn't know what I was talking about. I used to have a Cavy and had it for 5 years. (2000 model) so I knew that thing like the back of my hand. I'm sorry! |

Re: radio will not shut off when car turned off
Curbie thats fine, I used to work at a chevy dealer back "Da Day" and that why I know what was going prior to me getting mine. The radios on the 95+ are all the same minus always having the RAP. But in either case when this person shuts the ignition one of two things should happen.
A) the Radio stays on and shuts off after 10 min or whan you open the door. (RAP) B) The radio immediatly turns off when you shut the car off. It should not stay on and REQUIRE the perons to shut it off manually. And that is with all 95+ models -peace |

One more thing I need to add. I believe(not 100% sure though) the radio does still shut off after the 10 minutes whether I open the door or not - in other words the radio shuts off only if one of 2 things happen: 1. 10 minutes elapses 2. I manually shut off |

Re: radio will not shut off when car turned off
I am going with the thought Mangoamerican. Does your interior light come on with the passenger door open. If so find the switch on the drivers door and see if the switch is in or out.

Your problem lies in a button that is pushed in by the drivers door when closed. When the button is released the radio will turn off. Find this button and make sure it opens. If not you will need to replace it. As a 2000 cavalier owner, I know these are the same as all the other Retained accessory power models. As for aftermarket installation, it is not necessary to relocate the stock deck however, the installation companies will tell you it is in order to cover their butts.

I just bought an '05 and it had the same problem. The solution was VERY simple: both door buttons were sticky so I zapped them with a little WD40 and pushed the buttons in and out until they loosened up.

Re: radio will not shut off when car turned off
the problem is in the little button when you open the door......I took mine apart and cleaned everything and put it back together....now the radio goes off, my interior light comes on.....everything working fine
