You wanna stay cheap with lowering kits? I saw this on "Monster Garage". They get like this torch used for welding, and instead of the blue flame, they adjust it so that it has not as much power. When adjusting it, they get a lighter fire, like a loose fire on a torch. They then heat the springs and a guy gets on top of the hood of the car and starts jumping up and down. After one side is finished, the other side is worked on.

Iv raced plenty of Hyundai's in my time and i think perhaps my gandmother could walk faster then most of em, and shes dead.

seriously u say u have no money but u r saving up for mods, just save THAT money. learn to drive ur car and i mean drive it well, learn how the motor works and learn all the different parts of a car.
in a year or so sell the hyundai, add that money to the money uv saved and buy a car that is a good base for modification. it might b hard now but in a year ull agree it a far better idea.

Keep in mind Hyundai makes one of the most powerful WRC cars out there, making well over 400hp.

If there's a will, then there's a way, it's just a matter of how fast you want to go, and how much you'll have to spend to do it.

That being said, a Hyundai Elantra is not designed to go fast, it's designed to get around town as practically as possible. The designers often comprimised performance in the interests of cheap, large scale production so that the cars can be sold for less, in greater volume, and still make a good profit. As such, the suspension components are not built to see heavy duty use, neither are the pistons, the connecting rods, drivetrain, etc. If you start modifying the car without knowing exactly what stresses the components can take, and upgrading them as necessary, you will eventually break something, and you won't have a running car anymore.

If you have limitless resources, and can afford to have another car on the road while this one is being modified, or this one is being repaired because components couldn't take the stress and broke, then by all means, go ahead.

For some reason though, probably that you're driving a Hyundai Elantra, I get the impression your resources are very limited.

A '91 240SX is an excellent choice if you want to go fast, KA24DE builds and SR20DET swaps can make well over 400hp, the car is pretty light to start with and can easily be lightened further, and the handling potential is awesome. There is a huge aftermarket for them, and no end of possibilities.

There are two important things to look for really, a 5 speed transmission, and to make sure for the love of god that it has a DOHC 16 valve engine. You do NOT want the SOHC 8 valve engine, as it won't be much faster than your Hyundai. The DOHC engine will say Twin Cam 16 Valve on the top of it.

the 91 240 idea is a great idea! but back on the topic there is a NEW lowering kit you can buy. it's universal bags kit. it's cheaper and it gives you the lowering you want. Your drive tran will have to be redone and much more. if you really want to lower it go with that if not go with springs never go with coils! your nuts will be up in your skull!
