Re: in progress | toyota levin ae86 [lots of pix!]

a suggestion with the masking tape is that you take off the masking tape after 5-8 minutes (when paint seems somewhat dry). If you just leave the tape on until the paint fully cures, the paint might lift with the tape.

Re: in progress | toyota levin ae86 [lots of pix!]

mm.... i leave the tape on for the whole process, ie: mist coats (+/- 4coats), then heavy coats (+/-2). so... if i doing it slow, it'll be on it for 1week. but... if i doing it quick, maybe 3-4days. so... yea, i cant avoid that. but then again, is my method wrong??

however, this is my homemade oven

and.. this is my spray booth.

lastly, this is the pitting im talking about. this is after i scrub it, so, before, it was way worse than this.

Wow, that's some serious pitting. What type of masking tape did you use? I was informed to remove any masking in two-tone painting while the paint is still tacky not dry, maybe that's the problem.

When I do my 2-tones i usually take it off while its still wet, but be careful..you can ruin it. My theory is that when the paint hardens it turns into one big peice of paint... looks pretty by the way

Re: in progress | toyota levin ae86 [lots of pix!]

honoturtle, im using tamiya's one. im quite surprised of what happened to me.

removing the tape while its partly dry is rather hard for me. cos... most of the time, my masking tapes are not in one piece, meaning, there will be a lot of them that overlapping each other. so, there will be another problem if im trying to remove them while the paint is partly dried.

well, the thing is, learn from the mistake. this is my 1st kit that i used that heat method to cure the paint (cos its winter here, so the air's a bit humid). next time, i'll try not too use heat, but just close the bucket and make it semi-air-tight. therefore no dusts or any loose particles air borne will destroy the paint.

haha... thanx bro. i need to repaint the black bit on the body. i cut-polish the paint job to get rid the bubles... but its ended up with i cut too deep, therefore 'erasing' the paints. so yea... its quite a mission to cover those white coloured area.

holiday's coming up with a fresh dough from my salary. well, not much, but i think its enough for this time. hehehe.
