Re: LS Motor Swap...need your opinions...

Yes, polyurethane mounts will cause a lot of noise and vibration. I don't know how stiff yours are compared to mine, but over the course of 3 years its rattled pretty much every bolt loose, and my brain. I can't get used to it.. The resonation in the cabin when all the windows are closed eventually starts to drive me insane. When the windows are down its not so noticable. On the plus side, it makes the car feel like a crazy little go-kart.

Glad you enjoy it. What tranny are you using?

Re: LS Motor Swap...need your opinions...

I still have the LS tranny. No change there. I plan on boosting and I've read that the LS tranny is good for boost. So I'll stick with it.

My question about the choice of turbo is which kit to go with? I've been trying to get an answer for this but I guess I haven't really asked out right. Keep in mind that I want this to still be CA smog legal but at the same time I want to pump out as much power as possible. The only thing that comes to mind right now is Greddy. That's cause I haven't really looked around. But I'm sure there has to be more kits out the that could be better than Greddy.

I've posted before that I have a goal of running low 13's to high 12's on the drag strip. Is it even possible to achieve this goal and stay smog legal? Can I reach this goal, stay smog legal, and not make any mods to the internals of my motor? Anyone have any input on this? Cause if I can't make my car smog legal and run the times I want to run, then I need to re-think my goal.

Anyways, thanks for all the input so far from everyone. It's really helped me learn more about hondas and engines.

Re: LS Motor Swap...need your opinions...

Congrats on your swap. Personally, I'm still in the SOHC dept. but have many many mods (i/h/e, ignition, pulleys, cams, etc.). I don't know what my times are but it's not important to me, but I've been reading this thread and I'm curious what all your car has in it. Do you have stock rims or oversized? I'm guessing anything bigger than 15" will just slow you down. If you have a big stereo system then that might slow you down too. It all plays a part in your quest for low e/t's. You want to stay smog legal, right? But you want a turbo. I've read plenty of people talking about low boost (6psi) putting out 200-220bhp on b18a and frankensteins (b20/b16head?) but I'm not sure about smogged. Anyway, I'm sure if you take out your spare tire, remove any speakers or whatever you have in your car, let some air out of your street tires, get used to the clutch, turbo your motor with low psi, then perhaps you'll reach your goal. Good luck!

To get running 12s your gonna need quite a bit of money, but if your already lookin at turbos im guessing you dont have any money problems, so if you get a good turbo and run somewhat high psi. and start to build your engine you shouldnt have any problems. Im not sure if you will still be smog legal but you might have to do some botom end work before you get to 12s.

Re: LS Motor Swap...need your opinions...

So if 12s+smog legal isn't realistic, how bout low 13s & smog legal? And if turbo+12s+smog isn't possible, then how about N/A+12s+smog? Or N/A+13s+smog? The only reason I want it smog legal is so I can drive the car on the streets and not have to wait till I go to the track to enjoy it.

How do u have cams when you only have a SOHC. This idea may seem like its out of left field, but I'm gonna guess that if you have a SOHC, you only have 1 cam.

Also, just becuase you have 16's ore 17's doesnt mean it will slow you down. It is more about weight, and now-a-days you can find some pretty light rims that are larger.

Re: LS Motor Swap...need your opinions...

You can run 13s, or 12s. But you have to be really fucking light. Take everything out that has weight, it really helps.

Power:Weight

Thats what matters. (and gearing, you're going to suck in that department with the LS tranny)

Re: LS Motor Swap...need your opinions...

If you are staying N/A and are trying for 12's strip everything you can and get a different tranny, one with shorter gears.

Re: LS Motor Swap...need your opinions...

Emissions laws are different everywhere, so its a tough call. I know here I wouldn't have too much trouble having a "smog" legal 12 second Civic. (aside from having the money to do one)

Its all about lightweight man. Take my word for it. Run your car with the full interior, then go home and take out everything but the dash and the drivers seat, go back and run again. You'll begin to understand what I'm talking about.

do you know that you can put a B16 or B18 head on your LS motor? It will give you more high end power and still be torquey.
