Re: AF is going down the gurgler

Soyo - The project car may need to be sold to cover legal costs.

eversio11 - We have been trying to avoid this for nearly a month. We have just had the final word from Igor.

Was there any explanation as to WHY? I know running a website takes a LOT of money, and the server wasn't cheap, but how did $15k come about? See, I've been wondering what was up with this server situation, and if it was REALLY a wise investment... I've STILL witnessed this place down numerous times since the installation, and even if the new server WAS needed, the place seemed to get by OK with the old one... there was just too many features being added and people joining without any prior screening. How much server space is being wasted by orphaned user acounts, unnecessary "features" and the picture posting section- do we REALLY need that? It's obvious AF is running on a tight budget, and kudos to Igor and any others involved in keeping it going, but I just can't help but wonder how much of this $15k is/was mis-managed (for lack of a better term.) If this place is hard up for money, why not get some more advertisers or something. I'll deal with a few more pop-ups if that's what it takes... they're everywhere else anyways. I just can't believe it is cut-and-dry $15k in the hole. Any sane person would have pulled the plug to cut their losses if the situation was getting that bad. Like I said, kudos to The Management for keeping this place going through that for this long (a testament to showing that the evil $$ means NOTHING next to being part of a community like this) but I'm sure there are other ways to keep operating, without continuing to plunge headlong into debt.

Re: AF is going down the gurgler

Automotive forums bought Igor that car.

If he is 15K in debt, he should sell it and drive something any other normal 18 year old would drive.

Re: AF is going down the gurgler

can any details be revealed on exactly what copyright infringements occured? I alway's thought Igor had a legal team to prevent this from happening. Maybe I am missing something but at a quick glance I can't see any copyright infringements unless it's all behind the scenes that none of us are aware of.

It really sucks that it's "stupid" legal jargon that is the downfall

Re: Re: AF is going down the gurgler

We have been informed that the only information that can be made public about the case is that it involves a car magazine and our 350Z project - and the fact that AF is tied so closely with that.

Re: AF is going down the gurgler

I've really enjoyed meeting everyone on this forum. It is indeed a shame to see it go. If it is at all possible to save it, I will be singing a happy tune.

I know that I have only been here for a couple of months, but this forum has pulled me through a long dull winter up here in Canada. I've enjoyed reading and responding to every section that I have visited, and have learned more since being among you all.

I'll be sticking around to the very end....as I'm sure that most everyone will. I only hope that there is some way that that day will not come, as I have grown accustomed to passing through here every chance I get. I am certain that if Igor could do something to save AF, he would do it, or would've done it already.

All that I can think to say now, is thank you, Igor, and everyone else responsible for creating AF. Thank you for bringing all of us auto enthusiasts together to share ideas, offer advice, or just to shoot the proverbial shit.

It's been a fun ride......

Re: AF is going down the gurgler

I am just guessing but Sport compact car has a project 350z, so maybe it has something to do with that..

If the magazine is ever revealed, I am pretty sure many people will boycott that mag.

While it's sad that our little internet home is going down the shitter, you people need to realize that everything has it's moment. Now it's time to move on.

Re: AF is going down the gurgler

Goddammit. I was starting to get to the point where I was biting my nails if I didn't check back on posts after 2 days, now I find out I'm gonna have to find some other forum? THIS SUCKS, where else can a guy argue about cars AND politics at the same time? Or at least do it with the ease and depth of opinion that's available here at AF?

Crap when Igor told us a few days ago I never though the situation would be this bad. This blows what is wrong with the justice system anyway? You can't do anything anymore without somebody claiming intelectual property infringement.

This is F$@& ridiculous what is next we can't go to the bathroom because somebody has the copyright to it.
