Yup.... in March.. or so I'm told is when it's going to come out... I seriously can not think of a better car to get at 25k.....
Maxima SE? G20 Touring? Type R? Prelude SH? Accord EX V6? RX-7 Turbo? Galant GTZ? Volvo S40? Audi A4 2.8? BMW 323i? 300ZX? None of them are on the same level as a WRX.... the only car I would even consider over a WRX is a RX-7 T or a 300ZX.... but it's a used car, and I'm looking for a new car... Besides those 2 cars are SPORTS Class cars.... yet the WRX can keep up with them no problem and it's a sedan... Out of all the Sedans in that class, WRX owns them all.... Out of all of the Sports compacts WRX holds its own with most or surpasses.... For the price? It'd be a shame to waste your money on anything else |

What about the New Z?
I think it should be in that price range: http://www.automotiveforums.com/cgi-...9&discussion=1 I really can't wait for it to come out. It will most likely have turbo and have a lot of horses.

The 350Z (Z car as some know it) is 33k.... that's 8 grand more..... not the same price range.... plus it doesn't have the same versitility as a WRX (which is a sedan #1, and #2 can go places the Z car can not... because of AWD)

Jack Handey
The Subaru engine does lay the cylinders on their sides, so that they stroke horizontally, and they appear to be flat. The horizontal stroking action is the aspect of their's that is used in coining the term "boxer" engine, as the cylinder action resembles a boxer's punching. So the terms flat and boxer can in truth be used interchangeably, as Subaru engines have been referred to as flat, and Porsche engines have been referred to as boxers. Edited by: JD@af |

JD is right. The boxer is a flat, the flat is a boxer...
Why not put a little NOS on it. The engine should take it if you install the system correctly. a 50-100 or so fogger system would be awesome. Turbo + NOS = Hold On To Your Pants!!! |

It's a 2002, not a 2001 - and if it does well, the STi should follow in 2 years.
There's no hatchback version. It's a wagon version. When the STi gets here, if it gets here, I pray I'll have enough money to buy one! The STi will not only be faster, but it will be built tougher too.

What?
LostBoyScout - It's a 2002, not a 2001 - and if it does well, the STi should follow in 2 years. What are you saying here? Are you saying that the WRX inst coming out till 2002? Cause you would be wrong I believe. There are to be two models released in 2001. One that that is already out and a late year model which will be the turbo. If Im wrong please drop me a line.

the cats
I agree with J Spec on the 3 cats, that is crazy, but they do that to make it a LEV. The way I see it, you can lose two of those cats, gain some HP, and still have it pass "regular" car emissions in many states.

the STi variant should come over here. Car and Driver tested one last year. They figured it had 300-320hp. It did 0-60 in 4.7 sec. It costs about 40 grand. Then again, nothing else can touch it (M3 is close in accelaration, but no all wheel drive and it understeers, for cripes sake) The STi is as close as u can get to the rally car. Not to mention it looks bitchin (huge wing, ground effects, etc). Just drop in some NOS, some breating enhancements, and you can have 450hp! Make mine blue.

Well, I don't know about that. the STi would probably be at least $40K, and for the extra $14K over the WRX, you can do a lot of mods to the WRX to get the same results... Its not like the A4/S4, because the S4 has a different motor, but the WRX has the same motor as the STi version. You could put a fuel pump and boost controller on the WRX, and run the boost as 17lbs and get some serious HP.

things
The Subaru designers actually had the round headlight design a while ago but decided to postpone there introduction because of toyotas introduction of similarly shaped headlights. (just quietly: the new headlights are starting to grow on me, not just because as a staunch subie fan I'll admit no wrong of them)
As for what in its class can beat it I think you will find that the latest evo will performance wise although after some aftermarket love (windscreen wipers) the rex should be king. Do you honestly mean to tell me that Americans haven't up to now had the cult rex available to them, America is such an umm lets say different world. I'm guessing you all realise that the new version isn't as quick as the older one? |
