Re: 4 ohms, 2 wires?
I guess now we have to go into the terms, Prefab and custom...
Prefab is all that crutchfield will tell you about. Those are pre fabricated boxes, prefab for short. they are boxes that are louder, but only for the woofers that are made to be louder at that note and only for the ones with that certain displacement. Costom ported boxes- audiophile boxes, used to properly tune a subwoofer to the range you would like to hear the subwoofer in. Since you are in love with crutchfield, Bandpass boxes: Maximum slam! Bandpass boxes are a special type of ported box designed for maximum slam. The woofer is mounted inside a dual-chambered box (one chamber sealed, the other ported), with the sound waves emerging from the ported side. The sound that comes out of the port is extra loud within a narrow frequency range. Because bandpass boxes are super efficient within that range, they tend to boom. Their aggressive sound is great for rap, reggae, and hard rock. Not all subwoofers work well in bandpass boxes, though; consult our product information or call a Product Advisor to be sure. A proper description is, they have the most screwed up frequency, which is split up into multiple different areas, that sound loud but crappy. http://www.adireaudio.com/tech_papers/enclosure.htm read that, tells you how the audiophile's approach vented boxes, not for loudness, but clarity.
