Licensing issues perhaps?

That seems likely. My son has a 1/43 Corgi die cast, and it's called a "BMW F1 GTR". There's no mention of McLaren anywhere...

bestest,

Probably for the same reasons why we never got other LeMans winners like the 1998 Porsche GT1 or the 1999 BMW V12 LMR.
Most probably licensing issues.

The BMW, maybe, but I would argue the Porsche was likely the model manufacturers didn't want to do it because both Revell and Tamiya had already made versions of the 911 GT1. Revell made the 97, and Tamiya the 96. Both were decent sellers, but probably not enough to risk their sales by bringing out another model that is too similar and compete against themselves.

The '98 model is the one that is most different, while the '96 and '97 are very similar.
All resin kits of the '98 Porsche GT1 were sold out very fast and the prices on eBay are ridiculously high, when you somehow manage to find one that is for sale ( a couple of times a year).

I agree that the 1998 model is quite different and probably the best looking of the group, but I still believe that neither company wanted to canibalize their own sales by bringing out competition. It would be interesting is someone like Fujimi makes a 1998 version since they're not making any money off the Tamiya and Revell offerings, and Fujimi has made one or two Porches.

Speaking of Porsches, why hasn't someone made a 917/30?

I am really curious how well did the 1996/97 Tamiya, Revell and UT Models Porsche GT1's sell?
Maybe they didn't sell very well, I certainly didn't see many of them built.

Tamiya did make an RC 1:10th scale version of the 1998 model, yet they never made a kit. Then again they made plenty of other RC kits of cars that we would have liked to have as 1:24 or 1:12 scale model kits.

Good question.

I think they do RC kits because its easy to make just lexan body and they sell lot better than plastic kits
