HA! I knew it! Not a full engine detail! Arrgh! Tamiya sucks! No, for real it looks like a nice kit and I'm definetely gonna order at least one! Nice kit bro, it's coming along nicely. BTW, checkout www.astonmartin.com configurator if you want to play around and try different color/interior schemes. It's pretty simple and easy to use, and kinda fun.

Good to hear that people will buy this kit. As it only makes tamiya produce more good fitting model car kits

I used this metallic black coloured powder to rub on the rims , which currently cant be purchased. I was lucky enough to get some from a friend 2 years ago. I dont have much left either about 5 gms left at most

Re: Aston Martin DBS

Why not a dark metallic gray undercoat followed by a little of the metallic powder (just a dusting and light buffing) for the brake discs?

At 1:24 scale you’ll barely see the metallic particles; I would go with “Testor Metalizer” Burnt metal or the finer metallic grey you could get and no sealer, gloss or any top coat, since you’ll definitely need a flat finish.

This is what I tried recently:
1st I painted the disc face with a couple thin coats of Tamiya's German Grey. When thoroughly dry, I then dry-brushed gunmetal LIGHTLY around the edges of the disc face. When this was dry, I then did another LIGHT dry-brush with metallic grey across the face of the disc. Still don't think it best represents a carbon-ceramic disc but it certainly looks better than if I had just painted it gunmetal & then dull coated it.

Re: Aston Martin DBS

I spray them with grey auto primer, then literally "shade" them with a soft (3B) pencil, and finally wash them with some Citadel "Devlan Mud" black-brown wash...

bestest,
M.

Exactly. Not an easy thing to do, but doable, even in 1:24 scale. Here is how I did it - spray a coat of coarse grain silver (like Tamiya Aluminum), then follow by BUFFING Testors Gun Metal metalizer. Once metalizer is completely dry, buff it slightly to reveal a bit of silver flakes. Then seal with flat clear.
Here is the result:
