i would pull up the carpet. if the guy doesnt want you to pull the carpet up, then hes trying to hide something. so do that and check the underbody and make sure its sealed with underbody spray (it looks like TAR). do that and let us know what you find out.

i fully agree, if the guys actin suspicious and doesnt want u lookin then somethings definately up and i'd tell him 2 keep his car!
but i know what canadian climates r like....all the road salt and such, it'll eat that car alive if it wasnt done right so get on ur back and check under the car for the rust protection rockguard stuff (Tar) lol

If the floor boards have rusted out then there will be more rust.

Has the car been repainted. If it has there is more rust.

the 88 si only has 105hp and rear drum brakes as opposed to the 90-91 having 108hp and rear disc brakes. the 88-89 is a little lighter though.
