dont' know about the best SUV offroad. consider the jeep wrangler, the land rover discovery and range rover, and the mercedes g wagon, and yes of course the hummer. looks are subjective, i don't think the cayenne much of a looker, but that's my opinion.

yeah, not to mention, after looking at the cayenne turbo, i wasnt very impressed

for all the power that car makes, ~5.3 0-60 is pretty mondane, even if it is an SUV

i take back my comment about the cayenne turbo being the SUV to beat, the reigining king still remains the GMC typhoon:smoka:

Even if its an SUV?

The thing weighs over 2 tons! 5.something to 60 is simply awesome, and its been proved to keep up with an M3 around a tough track!

How do you expect people to take what you say seriously when you come up with stuff like that? or when you cant spell mundane?

Exactly- the power---->Weight ratio is an important factor here- it may make more power than the 911 Turbo (3.9 Seconds in the 0-100) but it wieghs about 700Kg more

my apologies they are identical performers . . .

i just looked at the sy/ty C&D article and it says the typhoon SUV does a 5.3 0-60 and 14.1 1/4 . . . same times as the porsche

but i imagine that because there isnt a manual version of the cayenne it is at a loss because a good driver will get better times out of the typhoon taking it to redline in every gear

u have to admit tho, for a 12 y/o car and the aftermarket backing it has out there, it is pretty impressive . . . at least give it that

You dont gain speed by taking a car to the red line in every gear, in fact you will lose out in some gears because of the shape of the power curve. The sport mode on the Cayenne is devastatingly effective, you wont lose out that much on a manual.

its true u wont gain any benefit climbing revs in a gear thats already reached its peak performance, but i think the following gear will appreciate the higher RPM it starts at

Generally, this would balance things out in the lower gears, but in the higher gears absolutely not.

I would pick the Cayenne, then I would take the engine out and throw the chassis awaay (because I hate SAVs/SUVs) and insert the engine in my car.
