Silly people think they can slap a badge on something and it will become it. Yeah, the car you saw was probably a DX, with a changed out center tail section. As for that BALLADE thing .

That is a South African release. In S.A. the honda civic was sold under the Mercedes-Benz banner, and rebadged the "Honda Ballade" as u can see by his center back panel. Mercedes-Benz S.A. got AMG to develop a bodykit and performance mods for the car, and hence it has the AMG badge...
Just thought i'd let ya know... |

well that's cool then. also, on that civic special edition i was talking about, the only thing i can notice is that the side molding and the side mirrors match the body color. nothing special on the inside, but i haven't seen under the hood. i'm thinking maybe a DX with an Si motor? like an EX without all the options? it isn't in very good shape though.

the ballade is actually a 1st gen CRX. and the was no special edition 4 door in the U.S. And ///AMG is for Mercedes Benz, ONLY! What the hell is going on in here, I thought this was a Honda enthusiest(sp) board?
I really hope you guys are joking. You are right? |

yeah the honda ballade here is the same as an old rover vitesse or something.
one sec... here is a link to a pic of one hopefully. http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD...ia?id=30716114 thats a UK 1990 ballade. i didnt know they came as new as 1990. also, does it not just look like a 3rd gen civic sedan? which could easily make that other 4th gen civic sedan in other countries be called a ballade. however i can verify the mercedes link : see this page translation from google http://translate.google.com/translat...8%26safe%3Doff next to the 'seden 1994 - 1997'... mentions mercedes benz south africa this is fun. |

Because of sanctions placed on South Africa during apartheid, many car manufacturers pulled out of South Africa. German car manufacturers, however, decided to finger the rest of the world, and capitalise on the situation. Thus, companies like Mercedes Benz refused to pull out of S.A., and make more money at the same time, by "importing" cars from other manufacturers, and selling it under the banner of Mercedes Benz South Africa.
The Honda Civic was one such car, and was imported into S.A. from it's second generation line up, the boxy shape civic...and following line-ups, until the 1996-2000 (7th gen) series.. These were all sold as "Honda Ballade", and not as civics, because Merc-Benz S.A. wanted to establish it as a luxury marquee. Honda South Africa only came into being in 2001 when it was decided that Honda would now go it alone in South Africa, and no longer be under the Merc-Benz banner. Only when Honda South Africa was established was the name "civic" given to these cars. Previous to this, all "civics" in South Africa were referred to as "ballades". During the control by Merc-Benz in S.A. every line-up of "ballades" had a perfromance model, tweaked, modded and kitted my AMG...hence the AMG badge... We also did not get every model you guys got. We never got hatches until 1997. Only sedans and CRX's. We never got VTEC until 1996, 'coz we did not have unleaded back then. But... ...and this will bake your noodle... we got the Integra 1800 (B18) motors AS STANDARD in the "ballades" as the top marquee for every series... I could not understand what U guys were on about "swapping" B18's into your civics, until realised that it was only in South Africa that "civics/ballades" were fitted with B18's as standard. Tha's cooool... |
