Re: Time for new exhaust

So if all goes well the exhaust is being put on Sunday. My roomate has found us a lift that we can use for the day along with a welder. Today I went ahead and cut one of the flanges off the catback, where is necks down to 2.5". This is getting replaced with a vband. I also appempted to remove the studs out of the T3 housing so I couls clean up the surfaces. Well of course I have bad luck and broke off one of the studs in the housing. Without having a torch here there is no way I can get this out. I went ahead and drilled a hole threw the stud and taped it with a 1/4" bolt as a temp fix. This will atleast hold the exhaust out and wont leak till I get this fixed.

The T3 housing will not even bolt up to the manifold bc it hits the wastegate pipe, I was thinking about working around it like Dave did but that is no longer an option. It must get cut off and welded back on another direction. This mani was designed for the turbo to face the passenger side like the 4g63 but I dont want to run mine like that so thats why I am having the problem with cleaence. Maybe workin on the manifold tmrw, I really dont want to cut up such a nice manifold but I guess I dont have a choice.

Re: Time for new exhaust

Another what? The manifold? Those things are $400 new.

So is the compressor is hitting the WG pipe? How bad was it? Mine is at a 45* angle coming off the flange. I don't understand why it was made to face to the passengerside... doesn't make sense. The PS and AC are right there, there's no space for piping or a filter.

Re: Time for new exhaust

Yea I'm not buyin a new one. I got this one for ab half price still in the box.

Dave the exhaust housing is hitting the pipe for the wastegate. And then the flange hits the center section.

I can't remember if my exhaust side was hitting it. Honestly don't even know if I checked lol. I had to rotate the center section a little bit so the oil feed could go in. Sometimes wonder if this thing is going to be worth it in the end.

Oh. Not talkin shit or anything, I just didnt realize that any part with an OBX tag on it, could go for more than $100.

Re: Time for new exhaust

Lol Ned

I personally think OBX is little under rated on some of there products. They actually have a HUGE product line for starting off as an "ebay company." My adjustable cam gears are OBX and have not had a single problem with them ever. I've read about people having the bolts fall out on them. That'll happen if you don't tighten them and check them. Here's little bolts on a part that's constantly rotating... you have to check that shit. Even with the Greddys and other brands, still ideal to check them.

And don't forget, the fact that there's a tubular turbo manifold for the 420a raises the cost up significantly.

My original CAI was an OBX and I believe my strut bars are too. All that fit perfectly too.

Re: Time for new exhaust

Yea Im not really sure why that manifold is so expensive. I guess because there is only 2 companies out there that make 420a manifolds that arent log style. The quality of the manifold seems to be very good, I feel like they could have made the fitment better but theres nothin we can do about it now.

Re: Time for new exhaust

Well guys I just finished installing the new exhaust. Let just say that it was a lot more work than I anticipated. First off we fitted the catback on, it actually fit pretty good. About half of the hangers fit ok but the other 2 had to be rewelded. But thats no big deal. Then started on the manifold, I knew it needed a little bit of work to make it fit but this has to be the shittiest manifold I have even seen. It clearly was not designed for a 420a eclipse. Nor could they ever have even tried to bolt it up to a dsm bc the fit sucks on this. First one of the runners hit the tstat housing bolt. No big deal, I put a small dent right there and got it on fine. Turbo fit fine, a little close to the radiator but nothing to bad. The exhaust was pointed right into the AC lines. Got the a propane torch out and bent those out the way. I think I got one to hot bc it started leaking fluid a little. It stopped when it colded down so idk. The ac doesn't work anyways. Then for the worst news. The manifold stuck up so high that the hood would shut. There was ab a 3" gap. FML. So we cut out the hood bracing a little to get more clearence. That helped a lot but still didn't have enough. So there was pretty much only one thing we could do. Beat the shit out of the manifold till the hood will close. I wanted to cry everytime the hammer hit the shiny stainless. But we did what we had to and that all we could do. Im just going to wrap it in some exhaust wrap it wont look to bad. We still have less than 1/4" of clearence. You can flex the hood down and hear it hit the manifold. It should still be fine with some wrap on it tho. The exhaust turned out great other than that. For some reason the muffler is cocked at a stupid angle, its a little down so Im gonna fix that maybe over thanksgiving. Here are some pics.

Re: Time for new exhaust

Told you it sucks. Shit I wish I had a lift to do that shit with. The DP turned out really well. Much better than mine. Glad I don't have the AC... looks like a really tight fit with that in there.

Where's the WG dumping at now?

Re: Time for new exhaust

Yea it was nice. My roomate set that up for us. I can't imagine have to do that layin on the ground. It would have never turned out that good. Yea I would never have bought this mani if I knew I had to do all this. It still doesn't look to bad tho. Still got a leak on the vband goin to the catback. Not sure how to fix that. Dave have fun beating the shit out of yours. I'm very surprised we didn't crack a weld on it. I just threw the wg pipe on it from before but I plan on making a new one.

Now for some results. The car spools ab 2-300rpms slower with that bigger wheel and t3 housing. But it pulls hard on topend. Its goin on the dyno to get tuned on tuesday so we will see if we gained any power
