Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Bumper casting prepared!
It is a huge mold, I used three quarters of my 1 lb silicone kit! From the color it looks like I put too much catalyst =( however I can't really tell until it fully cures. The seat is getting the second half of the mold done while the bumper's mold only has the top half as of now.

Since I had about 30cc of leftovers after making the seat and bumper mold halves, I used the remaining silicone for smaller parts. The round one is a mold for fujimi brembos, and the cube box holds a traffic cone.

Looking good, what is the blue stuff you use? Blu-tac? or is it the clay stuff in the kit?

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Midmazar: the blue stuff was precisely called "alumilite synthetic modelling clay".(Don't know if they are any different than regular modelling clay) Got it from my LHS along with my first RTV mold kit I bought 5 years ago. They last forever as long as you keep them free from dust.

You planning on selling the seats and the front bumper? I'd like a set if you are.

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

A few copies have been made.

Currently the best results I got:

This lip needs a bit of work.

The seats are more of a headache...the silicone kept breaking at the seat belt holes, some work will be needed to open them back up but with the details intact it should be pretty easy. The bubbles should be an easy fix with a little bit of epoxy putty.

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

What type of silicone do you use? Is it aluminite?

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Sorry for the long emptiness and now the oversimplified progresses, I had lots of school work for the past 2 months and only during my "reading" days I could catch up a little bit here. So while some of my classmates might have been out of the country these few days I got to sit in my cold basement and snapped these photos.

4:

Two resin seats with work done on them, ready to paint. Those tape cutouts are for the interior carpets for all 4 cars.

The suspension parts from the hasegawa kit was straight out of a EVO1, and I can't install any wider wheels with them, so I took out parts from a tamiya EVO5 rally car and modified them to fit. Bad news is that after I did all those mods now my wider wheels have broken off at the rod, and I can only put the stock rims back on. With the suspension reworked, the original exhaust didn't fit neither, so I made a new one with a rally car part and aluminum tubes.

With the body polished:

Headlights came from an old evo6 kit I built many years ago. I had put BMF/chrome stickers in side the pods to simulate reflectors, after I took these pictures.

6.5:

Printed my custom stickers using corel photopaint.

Since I used the EVO5 rally car suspension parts on the 4, and I still want the lowered rally car look on the 6.5, I now need to remake everything I used on the 4. These took a couple hours of work to make them fit just like a stock tamiya part.

Body polished, exhaust were mostly stock except for the tip, which I only replaced the original plastic with aluminum tubes.

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Mock up photos...

Nov 15, 2009, EVO 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition completed. I will post outdoor pics later in the future, definitely when all 4 are complete. Excuse the wheels, they are Fujimi Weds Sport rims (forgot what model), 8 spokes and are 4 bolt. The real TME ones are made by Ralliart, 10 spokes, 5 bolt, and are 17". I thought of using the impreza prodrive rims that came in the rally cars but those look way too big. I can't think of any other wheels available in the modelling world that would resemble the Ralliart rims more closely than this. These rims have been modified into the tamiya type installation.

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Hi Kaho,

Based on the color of your silicone mold, I'm guessing that you are using Alumilite Quickset or 3110 silicone rubber. You should try High strength 3 silicone rubber. It is just a little thicker than Quickset and takes a little longer to solidify but the rubber is way more flexible and tougher.

And it is pink

I love this pic. Both came out sweet, super clean. Also the seats look cool with those decals. Are the decals printed on a laser printer?

Thumbs up Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

Both cars look great. Amazing how you replicated the suspension parts. Also replacing the headlights on the EVO 4 is an easy but effective way to add detail to the car. I will definately do the same when i'm biulding my EVO4.

I'm also a big mitsu fan. I've built the 3rd generation EVO's so far.

There are actually wheels which look similar. The Revell Eclipse tuner kit has 10 spoke, 5 bolt wheels. They measure about 17.4 inch in 1/24 scale. With some modification and proper rubbers they will look fine.

There are also similar stock looking wheels for the EVO4 out there. I have the Fujimi EVO3 and 5 Kits. They both come with the same wheels. They suppose to be 17 inch, but they meassure 16 in scale.

Top: Fujimi EVO3/5 wheels; Right: Hasegawa EVO4 wheels; Bottom: Revell Eclipse wheels

If you like them, just send me a pm.

Re: Mitsubishi late-90's evolutions

helico, yes for the seat, actually I used the leftovers of my HS2 silicone for a half mold and quick set for the other half. However the HS2 has been more than a year old and surprisingly it still flowed though thickened. Some bubbles didn't make it to the surface before that old silicone-hardener mixture cured 4 hours after mixing. Luckily only the bottom of the seats will be affected.

Midmazar: Only the "VI TOMMI MAKINEN" decal was printed using an ink jet printer, the seat decals are off 2 EVO5 rally kits. The real deal, instead of the Ralliart logo underneath T.MAKINEN, has the word "EDITION" inside a white box. Since my printers can't print white there is no way I can make those decals and having a similar sized box of graphics looked good enough to me.

mrsmorf: Thanks for the offer! I have all those rims you mentioned though. I actually built a IV using the evo5 rims but since the centers sink inward (more offset) it just didn't look right to me. The eclipse rims, I haven't measured it to scale inches, but by comparing it to other rims it turned out a lot bigger than the tamiya evo6 rims, and close to the impreza rally rims, which also felt too big. I had spent a few days going through my unopened kits, spare parts, and the internet for others that may look similar but no luck, and then I settled with what I used, which is about half a mm smaller than evo6 ones and with the thicker fujimi tires it ended up pretty close.
