Re: Porsche Carrera GT (lights & opened)

Hi ravan17, thanks for your message. I've seen your supra build and it's progressing nicely. If you check my WIP thread, I used 3mm superbright white LED's. Previously I'd been working with some 5mm ones I had leftover from my RC so it was quite a relief not needing to cut these 3mm ones down to size. They do appear to have a blue tinge in the photos but they look white in real life. If the ones you use emit a white light, I'd suggest spraying a very light misting of clear blue if you really wanted that HID look.

Re: Porsche Carrera GT (lights & opened)

thanks man.

i have a set of 3mm bright LEDs coming in the mail soon hopefully. i'll see what they look like, i might just thin out some blue paint reallly thin and see what happens, but i doubt i'll need it.

again, great build, and thank you for the compliments and the advice

Re: Porsche Carrera GT (lights & opened)

Nice project. I like the color.
May I ask - why Alclad Gold? Why not Alclad Chrome or Polished Aluminium for example?
I just want to paint my XJ220 the same color, but I have only Alclad's Chrome and Polished Aluminium.
As for the diorama, I would advise to use cell phone charger (if its voltage not exceeds 4,5V) as a power supplie, but be carefull not to confuse polarity. And avoid of short circuit + and - with conected LEDs. You can burn them.
Good luck.

I did some colour testing before with clear red over chrome and compared to over gold, it had the warmer look I was going for. Originally I got the concept from reading ejsmith's F1 Ferrari 2007 build and liked his results. Gold works really well as a base for clear red and compared to the chrome, gives a much more visible metallic finish. Try spraying clear red over your aluminium and chrome yourself on some plastic spoons and see the difference. I'd recommend getting gold as well though as it's a good colour to add to your paintbox . Looking forward to seeing what you produce.
I've given up having a dedicated diorama for this build. I've half-heartedly built a street dio I can use, but at the moment my models just sit in my display cabinet.
