Re: Engine Swap

I didn't get instructions with my conversion kit and its for converting my car from obd0 to obd1. That's why I purchased it in the beginning. My engine harness won't connect to the car harness either, how should I go about that.

Re: Engine Swap

Who made the kit? I wasn't asking what kind of kit it was, that was pretty obvious.

Please don't tell me it was an eBay special with hot glue holding the wires to the clip.

Re: Engine Swap

We can give you a general idea on what needs to be done, but we can't tell you where to connect the wires on your kit.

Re: Engine Swap

That is one of the few things I would never get off ebay, its worth the extra money to get a good named harness like Rywire or Boomslang.

First thing I would do, is try to contact the person you got it off of and see if they can give you some instructions on what wires are what.

But seperate from the harness, you will need to do a MPFI swap on the wires: run the 2 extra wires for the 2 extra injectors, swap the outside wires on the TPS sensor along with extending them, run the 2 extra wires from the distributor, and figure out if you are installing a resistor box or not. Check the FAQ, I recently did a how-to on the MPFI swap and should have covered most of your questions on it.

Along with the MPFI stuff you will also need to run wires for your Vtec solenoid and oil pressure switch, and wires for a 4 wire o2 sensor.

Also, on the D16Z6, the MAP sensor is on the throttle body instead of the fire wall, along with the "purge" solenoid. These 2 sensors you can just extend the wires and change the plug on the Purge solenoid....or just extend the MAP wires and leave the other one.

Re: Engine Swap

From what year and model do I get the resistor box from. My car is a 91 honda civic dx. d15 (dpfi) and im going to swap it with a 92-95 vtec (mpfi) d16z6? I saw a resistor box on ebay... 88-91 Civic Crx SI HF Injector Resistor box Mpfi, should i get this one. The d16z6 engine going into the car already has the harness, intake manifold, throttle body. How do I go about the 2 main harness conectors on the car to connect to the 2 main connectors that are on the engine (d16z6).

Re: Engine Swap

If you use the obd1 injectors don't use a resistor box, the injectors dont need them.

Re: Engine Swap

You should be using the engine harness for your car, so you don't have these issues.

Get the plugs from the car you took the harness from, or get the harness that goes to a 91 DX.

Re: Engine Swap

Ok, I was able to get and print out the steps for converting to mpfi for (dummies). I want to be certain that the information you guys are giving is what is correct because I will be passing it to my brother he's doing the swap. D16z6 engine is complete, what things do leave on and what do take off. I've confused do I use a conversion harness or not? Do I use the harness from the d15 and also use the harness from the d16z6 and grab the harness for the injectors and then complete the wiring is the correct?

Re: Engine Swap

Follow the simplified MPFI swap by Tony.

Before you put the engine in the car, make sure you have the DX engine harness wired up to the D16Z6, with the injector harness already wired in and the Vtec wiring already done. Once you're done w/ all that, you can insert the engine, that should be pretty straightforward... after that, connect the engine harness to the chassis harness, and plug in the ECU. Connect your battery, done.

It's not nearly as easy as I just made it sound, but damn, it's not that hard either.

Re: Engine Swap

Do you know someone who might have the instructions for converting obdo to obd1 a diagram or a script that I can follow for the wiring. What is wrong with buying a conversion kit from ebay?
