Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27
Brave indeed. I wouldn´t have the trust into my abilities to cut a *** USD-expensive resin kit. You have faith...
With all the parts separated this will be one hell of a model - gives you lots of room for extreme detailling. Robert

Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27
Well that's a brave move:-) I can see your point and i admire your will to get it as accurate as possible! On the other hand i have learned from own experiments that sometimes it's just as fine to leave things as they are ( as long as they are not really obvious mistakes ). After a while when the model is finished you won't see them anymore and enjoy the result anyway.
Just make sure you're not causing yourself more troubles with the decals. I f you change the body proportions they may not fit well enough anymore... |

Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27
Really nice project and I look forward to seeing your work.
I would suggest to be careful when overlaying model pictures with reference photos in Photoshop etc. as per you example (IMHO, the model looks pretty close already). From my experience you need to not only get exactly the right angle to photograph the model as the original reference picture but you need to get the same lens length which you'll only be able to guess at. Trust me, the edges of a car can wrap away differently in a 100mm v 300mm lens picture, even from a distance. This coupled with a slight misalignment in placing the camera for the model picture can get all sorts of distortion (see the difference between your picture 1 and 2. Check your second photo has the correct aspect ratio (eg. the wheels are perfectly round) and take another model photo a little higher, as you are too low right now). I reckon the model roofline is the most inaccurate part of the body (too high) and you have scaled the picture to this dimension. Scale the picture to the wheel arch distance instead and the rest of the body may be more in proportion! Good luck with it anyway! |

Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27
2 cinqster: Please.
![]() As you see the reality is much more bad than I has shown earlier. The wheelbase is 108,5mm by platform and approximately 110mm by arches, but it must be 113,3mm!!! The body lenght is 174mm without front spoiler, but it must be 181,9mm minus about 3mm for spoiler=about 179mm!!! Yes, as you said the roof is higher, shorter and more round in the rear. All the rest rough mistakes you may to see on my new pic. above. Last edited by stratos75; 11-08-2008 at 05:24 PM. |

Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27
Now I have a different question. I see your brother is working out a CAD model in CATIA V5. I shall be grateful if you/he can tell which CATIA module is used to make such construnstions (Free surface, Generative shape design... etc.). A tutorial is highly appreciated.

Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27
2 Khier: My English is very weak and it's hard for me to give you any tutorial. I can to say only that at first we uses Photomodeler program to get a necessary quantity of index points by photos. Then these points are converting to Catia and all the next constructions makes in Generative shape design.
2 360spider: Thanks! I don't know yet, may be I shall use this bodyshell for creating a new one. Last edited by stratos75; 03-17-2011 at 04:19 PM. |

Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27
I´m not trying to stop you, but aren´t actually looking for trouble here?
Before you start all this mess, please ask yourself whether the modifications on your scratch build will be visible withe the sole eye of a human. I mean we´re talking 1/24 here and youare not about to change a wrong or misplaced decal... When you answer this question with a sincerely "Yes!", I´m more than eager to see more of this scratchbuild-fest it will be. Regards and good luck Robert

Thanks for your opinion. I do not like the accuracy of this model and I think I can have much more better quality model at my possibilities. There are grey strips can only will need to be change. But I can to draw them anew. I firmly intend to make an exact copy as much as possible.
