1996 and up it is.

1989 and up - passive restraint drivers side

1994 and up - drivers side and passenger side restraint

1996 and up dual airbags are a requirement on passenger cars.

49 CFR Part 571.208 or more specifically within the section S4.1.4.2 and S4.1.5.

Any more questions - ask someone that actually knows and can quote the Code of Federal Regulations

Ok, mby I'm just reading this wrong but, why does S4.1.4.2 not apply to convertables? And what exactialy is meant by forward-facing rear outboard designated seating position? Back seats?
Also, what is a Type 2 seat belt assembly? Blah, ok... Its to early for me to be reading Code of Regs

Hi ppls, I'm new, and I am looking into getting a Skyline, but I still don't understand these regulations...Is there ANY way you could bring the car over and not have all these problems. Also what do they do to the car if you were to import it legally? Do they tone down the engine? Just wondering these things, I'm a new driver after all, and I really want to get a used skyline. Thanks in advance..:sun:

Simple really. You pay us and we do all the work. We have already done the crash testing - we have already done the emissions certification.

The only thing you have to worry about is what color you want and what you are going to do with it...

We charge $17,000 on R33's . You still need to pay shipping ,customs clearance , bond , etc. That is based on the value of the car

http://www.motorex.net/faq.html#11

10,000 - $250 on the tarrif.$1800 on the bond. $200 bond processing fees. About $1000 on shipping. $350 on customs clearance. $45 messenger service , $100 towing charges. Some other incidentials.

17K for an R33 and 25K for an R34? You must be on crack... Dual airbags is not mandatory on EVERY SINGLE CAR. Above 96, yes. I read the NHTSA regulations as well as the EPA regulations. If I read the RI facts correctly, YOU (motorex) pay all the bonding and tarrifs. Still 17K is not that bad compared to the cars that you have on hand. 50-60K for an R33. Holy greed. I can't wait to be the second Skyline RI. Even sweeter since the Silvia and the Skyline have both been canned for the next 5 years. NO US bound GTR...

Good luck becoming an RI . I can tell how professional of a person you are by your signature.

Its not greed. Its called business. Obviously since you are just a kid - you have no idea what it takes to run a business.

How long have you been in business ? How long have you been in the car business? What kind of contacts do you have in the car business ? What is your budget for marketing and advertising ? How many editors of magazines do you know ?

Lets say you get the RI stuff worked out.... what about ICI ? Answer me a question.... how many certified CARB labs in the US ?

Its not impossible to compete with us. It just takes time and money. Something most people dont have. The fact is there is not a lot of money to be made in this business , otherwise a lot of people would be in it...... THINK ABOUT IT............

Can you give me an exact amount?

I have been to your website and it says a R33 1995 through 1998 is from $53,000 to $78,000 (I'm guessing the price varies with the different years, models and the condition of the car itself). Lets say I want A 1996 R33 Vspec, can you give me an idea or the amount which I have to pay, that is including everything, left hanf conversion, shipping, all the taxs and all other mandatory fees. Like I could just write a check to you guys and expect to pick it up in a couple of month.

Thanks

What does my sig on a web site that I rarely go to have anything to do with how I do business? I can tell your level of professionalism just by the why you conduct your self in your posts. You act like an arrogent, prick. I know what it takes. As for your pricing. You shouln't offer people the choice of buying a car that is in stock or buying thier own. You don't seem to have found a good median price, since the cars are not flying out the showroom, you know, the showroom you don't have. Almost every person on this board thinks you overcharge for you cars. More would buy your cars if you charged less for them. Insted of up to 50K over cost (a 100% increase) charge only 10-20K over cost. If you pay that much for your cars, that you need to charge that much, you don't have good contacts yourself. Don't try to tell me that the conversion parts cost 10K either. I would like to know a little about you so called 'marketing dept.' Where are your ads? Do I know magazine editors? Not yet, is it really that hard though? If you have a product as good as a Skyline, it can't be too hard to get into the mags. That kind of goes back to the advertisment of your service. Magazine articles are the only places I have seen anything about Motorex. From what I have seen in the last issue of SCC, you (motorex) are not very good tuners. Who puts a R33 GTR in the USCC with a test pipe installed? I'm not currently in the car business, but everyone has to start somewhere. As I recall your business started as a little known exporter of US automobiles. Who cares how many Carb labs there are. Your little facts that are easily obtained do not impress me one bit. So what do you do at motorex? wash the cars? How about you tell me what you do to cars specifically?

I am an arrogent prick. Everyone that knows me knows this already...so you are not stating anything that controversial. When I am right - and I know my stuff - I know my stuff.

We don't have a showroom. Never have , probably never will. The Skyline sales are still just a fun side thing. We started it with 2 people . Still really only have one person that deals with it full time.

As far as pricing goes. The price is well in line with what a used Acura NSX goes for. Do you think they are overcharging for those cars too? Just because you do not have the income to buy something does not mean that it is overpriced. They don't sell too many new NSX's either - too expensive.

Marketing department . We don't have one. Whats our budget ? Not much. How much does magazine space cost for advertising ? Full page SCC per month $7920 on a 3 month commitment. Full page Super Street $5300. Lets not even get into a big magazine like Motor Trend , Car and Driver , or Road and Track. They are around $25,000 per page per month. For a major manufacturer it makes sense. On a small scale it does not.

As far as being tuners... that is Justins personal car. And as far as the test pipe...not like it was the only one there....

What do I do. Lots of stuff. Do I wash cars -sure. We don't have 100 employees. 2 Skyline guys , 2 Export guys , 2 C-West guys.

What else do I do. I handle most of the conversion work. I put together the DOT packages . I take the required photos. I tune the cars for the emissions tests. I troubleshoot problems . I assist customers with tech support. I give customers advice on parts. I give customers help when they have tech issues. I drive most of the cars when we race them. I drove a car to NOPI , drove a car on the Trek 2 Texas. I handle most of the emails . Most of the forum stuff. I handle most of the shit talking for MotoRex , heard a lot - haven't lost a confrontation yet. I deal with most of the magazine people. I deal with our drag car now. Handle phone calls from prospective customers. I take the cars out to shows and events.I deal with DMVs when they have issues. I work on cars if I have to.

I like your style...Whats your name? You are doing everything that I want to get into... Do you know anything about the SCCA? One way that I want to plug my import shop is to get into Solo and Club racing... Althoguh i'm not sure if the Skyline is alowed in any of those series... Are you guy planning on doing anything with the Lan Evo, or any other cars?

Problem with the GT-R for some series is that its too much car. AWD , plus the turbos , 2.6 liter... SCCA stuff is fairly expensive. I have information for the Speedvision Cup...but same getting a program going is not cheap...

It would also probably take some work to get competitive.

Solo and Club racing doesnt get much coverage. Its fun...but not much coverage.

Our thing this year is going to be drag racing. Which is our scene. Its what I enjoy , its what I do. We are still slowly prepping Big Bird for that....

Lancer Evo - would love to bring them in. There have been a few aborted attempts. The latest was RalliArt UK. They had 100 cars in Japan ready to go...but I think they ended up giving up . It was going to end up taking too much time and they were not happy with the price estimates. We were talking to them after they had problems with another Registered Importer.
