Re: U call URSelf a CRX Enthusiast
BTW, a "friend" at a honda dealer told me to today that it would probably have a variation of the strange R18 that apparently can't be upgraded very easily.

Re: U call URSelf a CRX Enthusiast
when the hell are we gonna see the infinitely variable vtec that honda has held a patent on for years?

Re: U call URSelf a CRX Enthusiast
Honda holds a patent on it... but it's "impracticable" in reality.
The prototype involves solenoid driven, ECU timed valves, rather than a cam... this reduces drag on the engine as well, and reduces rotating mass inside the engine. The infinitely variable part comes from the fact that lift and duration are both controlled by electrical current to a solenoid, rather than force imposed by a solid "lobe" that can't change shape. |

Re: U call URSelf a CRX Enthusiast
I think were thinking of different designs. The one ive seen is not electrically driven, but relies on an eccentric cam shaped piece that rotates and adjusts the leverage and throw of the valves.

Re: U call URSelf a CRX Enthusiast
indeed we are... I was thinking of a design that has also been patented, but not by honda.. the design has yet to be perfected, due to the complex circuitry and programming involved, not to mention the amount of parts, and the design aspect of integrating them.

Re: U call URSelf a CRX Enthusiast
and the one that youre thinking of is a variation of a long used ferrari cam system,in which the cam doesn't have hard "profiles", instead, it has continuous lobes for each "lobe" that change in size, thus changing lift and duration and ramp speed based on engine RPM and (possibly) throttle modulation.

Re: U call URSelf a CRX Enthusiast
the basic idea there... lol... is laughable.. I can imagine the rebuild time involved in a head w/ that shit in it... I much prefer the ferrari cam system, second only to the solenoid controlled valve idea... which still doesn't work.
