Teflon thread sealant is at a good hardware, plumbing store. Tape should be good enogh, though there is a paste that is meant for just about every application including hydraulics (your case). Just don't let any get into the system. If you are missing a sealing ring, good automotive store, good harware store with all those specialty drawers, plumbing supply, hydraulice supply.

I had the same 'squeek and stall' problem with my 2000. I did the same fixes, new belt tensioner, new idler pulley, new belt, and even had a shop replace the water pump. Still the problem was there. The shop then replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor they called it. That was the problem. I was told that this part is geared to the camshaft and it times the fuel injection with the valve events. The shaft that turns was binding and causing the squeek and stall. No problem after that was replaced.
