Re: WIP-Saving a 10 year old model, JACCS FERIO

And I thought I was anal about how I painted bodies - hell, I have never even tried something like this. I can't believe you restarted the whole thing?! I will admit though, the second attempt was way better. Great job! It really looks great.

Re: WIP-Saving a 10 year old model, JACCS FERIO

Thanks for the comment, believe it or not I'm contemplating doing it again. Something about the blue...I think it went on pretty thick compared to the other colors. I'm not sure yet. I cleared the body before I left for work so I'll see what it looks like when I get home and decide if I really want to go through this all over again for a third try. I mean it's not really all that bad, I was just hoping for something a little bit better. Maybe if I do it over again, I'll use the decals for the blue edging. I'll just have to be super exact when cutting the masks.

Re: WIP-Saving a 10 year old model, JACCS FERIO

After much debate, I've decided I want to do it over. Basically, the red seems too dark as does the blue. I went out to buy new paint last night and I think this time I'll have it right. Here's a pic of how it looks with clear and partially polished.

The more I look at it, the more the color variation bothers me. I think that if I leave it as is, I'll be disappointed later on that I didn't correct it when I had the chance so might as well do it the way I want. There's a saying, "Third time's the charm" let's see if it's true.

Looks great to me? You are insane to try it a third time! Hope it turns out the way you want this time.

Re: WIP-Saving a 10 year old model, JACCS FERIO

We'll see if it's all worth it. I've spent alot of time, not to mention money, on the body already. I think what I'm more worried about is if I get the body just right and then I do a poor job on the interior. This is my first motorsports build that I'm actually trying to do more than just paint and glue together. We'll find out next week I guess. I pulled the body from the brake fluid this morning and gave it a quick wetsand. I put it back in before leaving for work in the hopes that the last streaks of paint will lift off by tonight. I won't get any work done on it this weekend because I'll be out of town but it should be prepped, primered, and probably painted white before I leave. I think since I've got it stripped, I'm going to add some slight modifications to the fenders as depicted in one of my HyperRev magazines. It'll help in terms of rim clearance and also be more accurate.

Re: WIP-Saving a 10 year old model, JACCS FERIO

So, you're actually doing it for the THRID time???

Brave man! As the others said, it looked good to me too but the important thing is that YOU are satisfied! I think I've only repainted one or 2 car bodies and they were not such a complicated colour scheme at all! So good luck with your third attempt!

Re: WIP-Saving a 10 year old model, JACCS FERIO

The thing that makes me laugh about this is that you manage to stop yourself ripping the masks off to take in progress mask removal pictures so we can all enjoy it too!!!!!!!

This is one of the best masking tutorials I have seen on this site and I respect you for doing it not only once, but three times to get it the way you want. After seeing the second result compared to the first I am sure that number 3 will look amazing, I personally cannot wait to see the result and like I said earlier I find it amazing that you can wait and take all those cool in progress shots of the tape coming off!!!! I know I could never do that!!!! Excellent stuff!

Re: WIP-Saving a 10 year old model, JACCS FERIO

Haha yeah, I took pics in between hoping people might get that same feeling of anticipation and excitement as I did peeling it back to reveal the final product. I pulled the body this morning from the brake fluid and began to wetsand it once more. Most of the paint is off and I've rescribed the panel lines. This is it, if I strip and sand this body anymore I'm going to have no more door handles LOL.

I was looking through my spare parts bin and I found a racing bucket seat from what I believe is one of the Tamiya JGTC supra models. The Hasegawa Ferio does include full race interior but I'm not sure how the seat compares to the Tamiya product. I'm leaning on using the Tamiya seat since it has the carbon kevlar decals for the back side but I'll compare the two later to see which is better suited for the model.

I should have a bit more progress to post on Monday night. I'm gonna hit Las Vegas for the weekend so wish me luck and hope I don't come back completely broke haha

Re: WIP-Saving a 10 year old model, JACCS FERIO

Aw shit, you forgot to do something...

Well, since you are stripping it again, what about cutting that hood and dropping a revell engine in?

O,no toyotas inside honduh's.

If you are looking for a bucket seat of some sort,PM me,i've got plenty of spare ones... The one that comes with the JGTC NSX is a Spoon one, right?
Well,i've got a spare one of those,if ya like it,PM me!
I might give it away to you...

But of course,if you prefer the Supra one,no problemo!

Re: WIP-Saving a 10 year old model, JACCS FERIO

Ah,I just remembered it...

Do you actually believe that I DREAMED with this model last night?!
I was so astonished that you've got a ferio and I don't [] That I even dreamed with it...

I was in one store, and I was going to buy a hatchback when someone offered me a Ferio for really cheap, but it didn't have any decals at all...
Well,i've got it!! [At least in my dreams! ]

You should put something like 'The power of dreams' on your sig,or even rename this thread to it! Because it really does have that power...
