Come on guys you have never seen the 70's movie "bullit"? It's where Ford came up with the Bullit design for the current Mustang. I suggest you rent the movie and see what's its all about.

I had a really sweet thread where I laid it out. I shall proceed as follows:

The basics:
2001 Ford Mustang Bullitt
options: True Blue, Black, Dark Highland Green
Other options: Mach 460 stereo
4.6 SOHC @ 265 (275 later rated by Ford) hp
315 lbs trq
Tremec 3650 5speed transmission
Best 1/4 time: 13.7s stock, 13.3 on DRs by JB Vobra (IMBOC.com)

Specialty items:
Exterior - Introduces the 2001 + Hoodscoops (taller in overall length than the 2000 Spring edition Mustang hoodscoops). The C pillars are unique as they don't have scoops per say, but mold to the body. The quarter panel window and arch are angled specifically for a newer aggressive look. Also, the Bullitt groundeffects are unique as we get mudflaps behind the front tires and a smooth edge before the back tires. There are no spoilers for the Bullitt Mustang. They come with a polished aluminum gas cap and brushed aluminum 2 1/2 tail pipes. Also introduces the Bullitt Torq thrust rims that ALL the GTs carry now. 13" Brembo rotors and two piston caliper brakes and 11" rears with red painted calipers with white ponies etched on the front. The Bullitt also do not come with fog lights!

Interior - Retro gauges, brushed aluminum shifter bezel, aluminum shifter ball, specially designed seats. On the door sill, there are brushed aluminum door thingies that say Bullitt on em (I'm tired, I forgot). The pedals are aluminum as well.

Motor - 4.6 SOHC with the following:
revised pulley system (I think this occured with all 2nd half 2001 year production year GTs).
Bullitt/SVO type intake
Twin 52mm throttlebody
Cobra Alternator
specialized tag to serialize the current Bullitt (Mine is 3753)

If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know.

When did ford change the rating to 275 hp? I read in one of the mustang magazines where the Bullit dynoed what would figure to 265 at the crank, but actually less torque then the GT of the same year.

No, its Team Mustang flexing its muscle and a go between the GT and Cobra.

Hey, www.IMBOC.com

Most Bullitts are dynoing above and beyond 265. I'd wager than 90% of the board that have dynoed their cars are around 270+. But I dynoed mine at 259... I think their dyno machine was way off cause a guy did comparative dynoes and the place I got mine was off on his by at least fifty hp.

Cobra

As for fun factor....gosh i lvoe my car. I drive a 97 cobra, i got mine for 15,500. It had 27 thousand miles on it and all kinds of mods like exaust, caster camber adjusters and such. my insurance is 375 for 6 months. I ve convinced people the car they want is a cobra. as for things to look for.....transmission is big, syncros go.....its not a big prob but if there is over 100,000 miles on it watch out....id pay 3 to 5 grand while spening another 2 grand fixing it

The 1996-1998 Mustang Cobra's horsepower specs were listed above.

Best way to get a lot of power out of it is to go forced induction, but if you don't have the cash, full exhaust, underdrives, CAI, 4.30 ring and pinion, and drag radials.

There have been numerous people able to drag the Gen I Cobra's into the 11's with no engine modifications, just a few external bolt on's (not forced induction or N20).

Stock look for 14.0@102 or so. Add 4.30s, X pipe, catback, and drag radials and you'll be in the 12's closing in on 110mph.

Bullitt is one badass movie, Steve Mcqueen is a police detective, I can't remember the story, but he drives a 68 mustang, and he has a BADASS chase scene with a charger I suggest everyone see it, even if you on;y see it for thr chase, it's one of the coolest chase scenes ever.
