I have been working at a place called Year One you have probably heard of it, theyt are big into f body cars. The have a z28 SS with a Vortec S/C and who knows what else, but they said it runs 11.50's. And it sounds so sweet hearing that whistle, ah music to the ears!

I also know a guy with a Z28 and he has a 150 shot i think and I believe he said it runs high 11's but I can't remember for sure. I will ask he the next time I see him. Anyway I think you could do 10's that would be crazy fast man!
Do you have the internals for it though?

ok well what if the tires were right, speaker box out and camber wasn't off if all that was fixed it still wouldn't give you the times that a drag or fmax or rev hard could have gave it i'm just if i was going to speed that much money i would go for something worth it

SWEET! Definitely know Year One...Curious, could you get me discounts there Right now, I have brand new rods waiting to go in the car. I'm probably just going to have them installed though, instead of doing it myself like I originally planned. I won't have a long enough break from school until spring break, and I want it ready to race by then! So hopefully within the next month those will go in. I'm not planning on installing a new crank or pistons right now. Mostly just because I want to prove that I can do it. There's a prominent member on camaroz28.com running a 250 shot on completely stock internals, and he's going to a 300 shot this season on the stocks! It's all in the fuel system. As long as you have a top-notch fuel system that doesn't miss a beat you can run a huge shot like that on the stock insides. I'm not worried about the pistons at all, the crank, I'm a little more sketchy on that one because of the amount of power I'm already putting on it. Rods I would have left stock except I came across a guy who needed to dump some brand new rods, and I just wanted to help him out with the money, so why not 'ey. Like I said a supercharger would be GREAT, but can't afford to dump $4000 on that right now. Buuuutttt, if you could get me a major discount...heheheheh

.

If there were any two companies I'd go for when it comes to a supercharger, it would be Vortech or Procharger. Both make excellent s/c systems. People who use either companies brands seem to like them a lot and no mechanical malfunctions. The thing I'm curious about Vortech is their aftercooler system. Whats the difference between an aftercooler and an intercooler? All I've seen so far is the after cooler is like a small box thing that doesn't mount in the front like an intercooler. Doesn't look to me like it would work as well as an intercooler but I could be wrong.

One thing is for certain, do not get a Powerdyne. Their price is cheaper, but you get what you pay for, junk.

I wish I could, I don't work for Year One, I am a electrician and they have just moved into a new builing that I did the electrical in. Sorry man, I have asked about a couple of things but they said they had nothing for my car
But on the bright side I got to see and sit in the NOV8TER which I am sure you know what it is. For those who don't it is a 69 comaro RS/SS and it is sooooooo sweet!

Like mentioned above.... What I have seen/read on dyno charts about the Vortech, is a torque curve much like a turbo, rather then an sc. Sooo, you don't get the low end torque, like you do with a "roots". Also they do not perform as well on 4 vs. v8 per say.

So just to say one system is better then the other, really does not matter. They each have their limitations, in one way are another. Just depends on what your willing to put up with. What kind of every day driving you are going to be doing. Which system is best suited for it. Having a car that will do this time or that time on the track, is whole different world, then everyday stop and go traffic. hehehehe

IMO, If I was going out and spending that kind of $$$$, I would just go turbo instead... hehehe

Actually the torque curve from a vortech is going to be worse than a turbo, because the turbo will be making way more boost than the vortech all the way through the midrange of the powerband. I made a quickie graph in accel, comparing a vortech, a roots blower, and a turbocharger all set/pullied to make 10 pounds of boost. The boost from the Roots blower will jump up very quick initially, but will start to die off on the top end because roots are very inefficient compressors, and the JRSC's blowers are, IMO, undersized for hondas. The turbocharger is undisputedly the king of the power adders. Boost comes on a bit slower than the roots blower, but the turbo makes massive mid and top end torque, far surpassing the vortech or the roots blower in power and torque. The vortech really is the lame duck of this equation, it doesn't make the nice bottom end punch that the roots atleast gives you, doesn't come on hard in the midrange like a turbo does, and given equal boost pressures it will still be outpowered on the top end by the turbo. Not only that but it is harder to change how much boost you're making with a vortech, the vortech puts a lot more stress on the front snout of the crank and your front main bearings, and the vortech takes the most horsepower to run.

Look at this chart. The roots outpowers both blowers off idle, to around 3000/3500 RPM's when the turbo takes over and never looks back. The horsepower curve of the centrifugal on a dyno sheet will look like the side of a mountain, very peaky with no flat parts. The roots will look like a gradually falling off plateau, and the turbo's curve will look like a very broad climbing hill.

to boosted331:
the chart representation of each blower is a lot more better now.

to all others, especially the new guys:
please let this thread die.

They had excessive wheelspin during their launches because they had crappy tires on it, street tires at that. I dont think they were finished tuning the car either. I dont remember for sure but I question whether it was a GSR or not too.
