At this rate the we'll end up arguing about whether it should be boot or trunk, bumper or fender, bonnet or hood...

i pronounce it with a short 'e'. Sort of like 'Deck-al'. Anyway, how did that word come about? What's wrong with transfer?!

Well isn't this a kick in the arse! Just checked dictionary.com, and aluminium is actually recognized as a British variation of aluminum

Well, I'm just going to have to slap an MG grille on the Miata and start waiting for the leaks and dead electrics!

I have never really known how to pronounce it, so I have just said deckal.

I wondered how to, but refrained from making a thread about it in the worry of sounding stupid (not that I already do....)

Thank you for showing me the light.... :bandit:

We can solve this...

Dunno where the word got started, but it's a common term and used for other products beyond models. Why don't we adopt a new international standard?

Printed waterslide graphic transfers. Any more beaurocratic, and we can start charging for the administrative costs of setting up the new standard. Of course, some of us could call them "those damned things I cut, dunk in water, and ruin my models with because they break, won't conform, don't match, cause me to lose my hair, my mind, my sanity..".

So much easier than worrying over Deckuhl, Deecal, or Daycal.

Oh no, I see a "Tameeya" vs. "Tam-eye-ah" debate about to start

Doh!

Hang on...you weren't checking the Oxford English dictionary. That doesn't count (according to the Stubborn Brit Rules Of Engagement).

If you want to join the pipe and slippers brigade, then that's the way to do it

MG, short for My Grandad. Partly responsible for the demise of the British car industry in the '70s. Sigh...

Wow...this thread is getting interesting....
we have the Americans trying to teach the English how to speak their own language......isn't that a little irony....
You want to talk about pronounciation, here in America is the only place I have ever heard the word height pronounced 'heigth' yes that is right, they prounounce it with a 'th' on the end....

Did anyone ever think maybe, just maybe, the Americans were pronouncing some words totally wrong?

Sorry Bob

Americans have no trouble at all proudly butchering theirs, or anyone else's language.

These days, your question is quite valid to "axe".

Makes me want to blow up a new-cue-lar bomb or something.

Personally I pronounce it as DEEEE-CAL cuz that's what those guys on Speedvision use

AHHHHHH.... Tamiya's either Ta-Mee-Yah or Ta-Mie-Yah... that's not too hard to figure out...

the ones that REALLY boggle me are:

MAISTO....
how the hell do u pronounce this one?!
MAH-IS-TOE? MAY-TOE? MAYS-TOE? ....????!??!??!!??!?!?!?!?!!?!

BBURAGO....
Bee-Boo-Ray-Goh? Bee-Boo-Rah-Goh? Boo-Ray-Goh? Boo-Rah-Goh? Bee-Boo-Rag-Oh? .... ?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!

FUJIMI....
Foo-Jimmy? Foo-Jim-Eee? Fooj-Imee? ....????!!?!?!?!?!?!!!!?

It's pathetic, everytime I go to a hobby shop the owner pronounces it differently... like u go up and ask "I'm looking for Bee-Boo-Ray-Goh" and the owner'd be like "Oh, u mean Bee-Boo-RAHHHHHHHHH-Goh" and I'd be like "Yeah, I meant Bee-Boo-Rag-Oh!"

Anyone else have this problem?
