I would get either a Canon, or one of the NEW sonys if you can afford it.
The canon IMO has a better lens, and allows you to alter more of the functions, and make it behave more like a real Camera.
The new Sonys (my father has one) seem to have most of the same functions, but the canon has cheaper memory cards, and uses regular AA batteries so you can carry a spare set with you, and can charge them seperatly from the camera.

But stay away from the Kodaks (to expensive for the limited features).
thanks for that.

the A40 looks very nice, but the price tag is just a little bit over what i want to spend ($300 more than A200)

so yeah, looks like i'll be getting the A200. :coolguy:

have you seen one for cheaper than that?

In the 5 days I rented it, I played it enough to make my wife hate it. She asked me why I was never working on my models...! :o

Have a look around differnt shops.
I got mine from Camera house, it was about $100 cheaper than DSE, and it came with a free 32mb memory card as well as the 8mb.

I thought the A200 was a smaller version of my camera, but it appears its actualy a simpler version, and lacks thinks like a zoom lens.
It has the same picture quality, but I dont know if it lets you alter a simulated shutter speed (usefull for shooting in the dark) and to adjust the colour balance for differnt lighting.
It would make a great camera if you just want to take simple photos and your not that interested in getting arty shots like I am.

Jay go and buy GTA VC, it owned me and my flat mate for nearly a month. :o and we both still play it on a regular basis. It is just so damn involving.

Urr, Moppie, my Sony digicam is 4 Megapixels and has an awesome quality Carl Zeiss lens! I think you would be hard put to find better because I've looked!

Canon make a 6megapixel combined SLR. I think that beats anything Sony can come up with. Pentax also make something similar.
Unforunalty you will pay well over 6grand NZ or AU $ for either.
But they are proffesinal use cameras, and not ment for home use.

The top of the range Canon suitable for amature use also has 4megapixels, and I think you'll find as many functions as the Sony, with an equivlent quality lens.
Which one is better really only comes down to brand loyality. (I looked at both sony and canon cameras, and only got the canon becasue it was on sale at the time and so several $100 cheaper than the equivlant sony )

Fair enough mate. Not shitstirring. Neither of us have the pro stuff - just mentioning the lens on the Sony I have is awesome in comparison to much of the digi photography I have seen.
