I was just going through my kit and I discovered the windscreen was cracked in half!

Could you advise me on how to make a vacuform windscreen?

Hahahah...wow a reply after 13 years, that must be a record. Thanks for bringing this thread up and reminding me of this nice forum.


The window wasn't vacuformed. I just used some really tthin clear sheet and used the original screen as a template. I also used a hairdyer to soften the sheet a bit and make it conform to the old screen. I used rivets to finally attach the screen.

Here a progress picture. But I really think you nee to attach ist with rivets becasue the screen will spring back into it'S old shape

Thanks for the pic. I am beginning to see how I might do this. Do you recall what type of clear plastic you used--the source? I have some various kinds in my materials box, and it looks like experimenting is in order before I subject the kit windscreen to the heat.

Did the plastic settle over the windscreen very rapidly?


Perhaps extra-small straight pins might make good rivets.


After viewing the pics on line, the heat-formed windscreen looks more prototypical.

Hi,


if I remeber it was actually some evergreen clear sheet. Don't know the size but maybe I still have some and can measure it.

At first I made a template from tape as you would do with CF decals and traced that on the sheet, attached the cut out sheet over the original screen and used heat to make it conform. BUT that doesn't work too good so that's why some strong bond to the body is needed, like rivets. Otherwise the screen will jump to it's flat shape...

P.S. ...actually the process is pretty easy. Just make sure you fit the screen, drill the holes in the body for the rivets before doing any painting. This way you can attach the new screen to the body with tape and drill holes through the body and sheet for a perfect fit.
