Hi all, ok some updates of what wreck i've done today...

as you can see, the 'fins' at either side of the rear boot is re-open again cos the fins don't line up well. gee, gotta redo this wanting part again!

i think i can safely answer those tamiya F40 builders' problematic 'rear can't close flush' symdrome. the problem is the hinges...you can see the hinges one up & one down...(or maybe only my kit?)

i thought for over an hour how to use back the tamiya door hinges after i cut-up everything...i managed to attched the door hinges for door opening & also the opening of the front bonnet...(hopefully)

i have to make use the clear windscreen as a guide, as to fix the A pillars into the firewall without obstructing the bonnet opening.

that's all for today...for those who wish to see a completion, i can only say i'm not that accomplished modelor & i have no confident now.
i regret this decision to do such a mad mod, could have just build any OOB & show it to you...why make myself suffer like this!!

I disagree. I think you're doing a great job. I'd be very afraid to do this sort of modification, and the work you've done really is top-notch.

please, i'm just 'assuming' or making guesses what should be look like here & there now.

yes, i need some good pics on the front bonnet, what lies beneath...shots of the 'cockpit' & what's behind the cockpit too.

Ok, some updates...or i should say some setbacks.

looks like i have to abandon the F40 rear bonnet & start building a brand new styrene replacement! please take a look...

the more i study the real car pics...the more i can pick out the differences between the F40 rear vs the 288GTO rear, with respect to this mod.

this prototype was not called 288GTO evo for fun...infact the rear bonnet resembles more closely to the 288GTO than of the F40.

by comparing the position of the NCAA side ducts at the rear arches, you can see the 288GTO evo ducts are placed much lower & closer to the rear wheel arches!

also, the sloping rear is different from the F40...it slopes down to the tail in an increasing width fashion, ie. like stretching your legs wide open on the floor.

most of all, the prime reason for a half-time calling...

the arrival of my second son!

i'll resume building this kit once i have the time...currently building the FX too.

Very massive project you have there but it's the builds such as this one that is the hardest but the most enjoyable to see when completed. You seem to have come pretty far with the progress. The 288GTO is my favorite car so you know I am going to love this. There are many Ferrari fans on AF along with myself that will be please to see the turnout of this baby (the car.) The real baby is beautiful also. Good luck.

i felt very touched, not because of the encouragement for the hiccups i'm facing with this build, but you people here do have a lighter sense of compassion...thoughts for my newborn child, a non-modeling subject.

ok! so at least i made some contribution here!
oh yes, he will start modeling, as soon as he stops putting model parts into his mouth!!!

That's a very excellent build you got there. I'm following this thread closely as I'm thinking of building this into my collection of Ferrari's.

Congratulations on the additional member of the family as well.

By the way, I'm from your neighbour country Malaysia and I have a few modeling friends in Johor and Singapore as well.

great, for a while i thought SG & MY has very very few modelors...judging from the number of auctions or kits for sale here.

thankx for showing interest in my thread...
besides this 288GTO evoII, i have made some progress in a FX, 365P speciale, 348 spyder & a 355 spyder. yes, all opening capable but right now i have to rethink my building methods if i wanna to see any of them in completion. i seem to float around without completing anything & start more & more WIPs...

be prepared to face alot of what if & eh...when you do this kinda of intensive mods.

Hi Marc,

There are modelers in MY and SG but for auto modelers, I can say that we are a rare breed...

Most of them either do tanks or planes.

Hope to see more progress from you (though you will be busy with the new addition to your family). Looking forward to your other builds as well (I've seen them and all I can say is that's one great talent you got there).

One thing for sure, looking at your builds really make me want to start building Ferraris again (I've been keeping them in boxes and most of it is not started yet).
