Re: Pics, as promised, and if you're on dial-up, get your coffee while this loads..

yeah, but it's only a couple spots, I'm going to have my neighbor weld in a couple new pieces on the 1/4's and cut that shit out.

I have to replace the floor pans too, so there's another opp to lose some weight.. replacing them w/ thin corrugated aluminum plates.

Re: Pics, as promised, and if you're on dial-up, get your coffee while this loads..

Thats going to be more than just welding a few new panels on. You are going to find rust where you didnt think it was. Those massive rust spots are going to be even larger once you start grinding them down. Both of those 1/4s are completely fucked and will need to be fully replaced. Once you get them cut off I guarantee you will find out that your wheel wells are rusting out.

If you like the car so much I sudjest keeping it around for a winter car and find a clean shell to start with. You'll save money in the end for sure.

Re: Pics, as promised, and if you're on dial-up, get your coffee while this loads..

nah, actually, it's just those two small spots... I've already had the trunk area completely apart to make sure... the rust literally only goes up about 4 inches on each side. This car originally came from VA, and spent the first 15 years of it's life garaged every winter, I have all the original paperwork for the car, receipts and all.

In reference to the 4th pic down...you stole OJ's gloves didn't you?
But seriously, I don't think it looks as bad as some people are saying. Looks like it just needs a good detailing job (inside & out), the rust spots fixed, and a new paint job.

Alright man if you think so. Have fun making that body lines on the 1/4's look original again. I guess you plan to use a ton of bondo?

Re: Pics, as promised, and if you're on dial-up, get your coffee while this loads..

nah, I don't do bondo, if I need to match lines, or fill gaps, I go old school, since I"m used to working on STEEL cars... mid 70's and early 80's cars, mostly, which used lead to fill gaps and low spots... so that's what I do. (it never falls off, at least if you keep care of it.)

@Civicspoon, lmao, I figured someone would see those... they're actually what I used to use for "driving gloves" that my wife now uses for work gloves, since I don't really wear them all that much anymore... I have a pair of mechanix gloves somewhere that are more comfy for driving than those are... those particular gloves are too fluffy, I like to still be able to feel the steering wheel.

Yeah, we just never got around to taking that off... it's been there since I bought the car the first time, around 3 years ago... some 16y.o. kid had it for about 3 days, and realised that he didn't want a Honda... he bought a Neon instead.. fucktard.

Re: Pics, as promised, and if you're on dial-up, get your coffee while this loads..

If I bought a neon, I'd shoot myself... then again, you should be shot for suggesting it...

Fact is, if you have a problem with something I'm doing to my car, get over it. the point of it being my car, is that I can do what I please to it.. if you don't like it, that's not a problem for me, since it's not your car... I don't complain that you do shit to your car, and I don't sit here and flame you for asking things or thinking about stuff that you can or may do... nor does anyone else, as a matter of fact, you're the only one that even makes an attempt at doing it, and I'm letting you know now that you don't have to bother, I don't read most of hte shit you post anyway, since in most cases (at least lately) that's all it's been. (Shit, that is.)

If you're done flaming, I'll start to respect your opinions and posts again, when you've proven that they're worth respecting.. until then, don't bother.

And stay off my ass.

Re: Pics, as promised, and if you're on dial-up, get your coffee while this loads..

the front valance was being re-painted when the pics were taken, b/c some 80 y/o backed up into the front of the truck at a redlight... he was in teh wrong lane, and didn't see the truck behind him..

and no, actually, it's muffler tape lol.. just to cover the rust spots to get it inspected.. it's just for 4 wheeling, never drive it on the street unless it's to get to another mudhole or something, so we're just "fixing" it until it can't be fixed anymore.

welcome to rednex, Pa, population == the number of trucks that run at any one time...

oh, and the S-10 is slammed on struts, dealer installed.. it's a long story, but burd's taking them to court, b/c they didn't do anything they said they were gonna, so when he wins, he's getting a full bag kit professionally installed paid for by the dealer, and a new engine swap, since they fucked that up too. (they didn't even remove the speed limiter, so it still shuts off @ 97 mph.)
