Model building in Japan = Gentleman's hobby and diversion for the rich.
Model building in USA = kids' toys. (and big kids' toys, too! )That's why the Japanese makers invest so much in fidelity and accuracy, and American makers invest in extra features. Generally speaking, that is... Model building in Europe = Anyone know?

I think there are a lot of good American modellers, probably just not in the area of import car models
I've seen a lot of beautifully built military models (tanks, planes, ships) that are as lovely as Japanese modellers' built ones. There's also some market for diecast cars (1/18 scales) that I think is preferred by a lot of adult car collectors (I used to be one myself). Not all model building in the States is associated with kids / young adults. Just mecha (thanks to the gundam crazed kids ) and maybe import cars?I'll shut up noww... :licker:
