Yea that will get rid of the powerdrain but if your gonna unhook em you may as well save the weight to.

Your distibutor sends power to the plugs in a sequence to fire the a/f in your cylinders,I'm not to sure you can "tweat" it for low end response.You can advance/retard it as mention before.
