Re: the moon

I miss the old AF.

Just seeing a thread about going to the moon reminds me of the glory days of Bongo vans and Perky Nanas!

Re: the moon

This thread reminds me of the Eddie Murphy movie I watched last night... The Adventures of Pluto Nash. Yes, I wasted 2 hours of my evening, but watching Randy Quaid as a robot was rather humorous.

Re: the moon

If they never went to the moon, then where did the shuttles go?

Re: the moon

The shuttles never landed on the moon. The shuttle is incapable of landing and then taking off like a plane. The wings are for stabilizing a controlled fall into the atmosphere, not flight. The shuttle only orbits and docks with stuff in space.

Re: the moon

The US was in a crunch to beat the soviets to having a manned mission to the moon as well as distract americans from the Vietnam War There's a ton of reasons to question the authenticity of the footage presented to the public.

In addition, Neil Armstrong went into a depression following their 'return' and many years later provided a great quote that eascapes me at the moment and I can't find on the web. It basically said there are many mysteries to be uncovered hidden by the layers of history that cover them. Bill Clinton said in his book that he believed in the moon landing (as most did). An old man told him that it was a fake and at the time he disregarded it as ignorant fallacy, but after 8 years in office he wonders if the old man was ahead of his time.

Until a couple years ago I thought man went to the moon also but the abundance of sketchy circumstances surrounding the events has led me to see otherwise. Read up on it and you may question it too.

Mars, numbnuts. Just keep it quiet, or before you know it, the place will be crawling with terrorists, and we'll have to send troops to convert the Martians to democracy.

From what I read on wiki, it seemed like for every possible hoax theory, there were several explanations debunking it.

Yes there is but just because something can be explained away doesn't mean it isn't so. I'm sure the government dedicated much time and money to finding scientific explanations for the inconsistencies in the event. Remember that back then there were no DVRs or VCRs to record the event so all they had to do was fool the american people en masse and presumably they would have no chance to review the tapes and evidence for themselves.

The main points that convinced me were the fact that they took no pictures of the stars even though they would have been spectaculer pictures from above the atmosphere, telemetry tapes have mysteriously disappeared, Armstrong's post-'flight' depression and quote (which I still can't find), and the fact that we lost interest in going to the moon once Vietnam was over.
