Re: Red Death - Status...
Used 3M 90 - doesn't work on naugahyde to naugahyde... Or I'm doing something seriously wrong. Worked great for sticking it to the dash pad, but now I'm trying to get a thin strip of naugahyde to the naugahyde on the dash. If you know the 2 gen's dash... its the little stupid stiched part.
Never saw 3M 80. Have to look around for it. EDIT - Actually considered stapling the fucker on there, but uh... it just wouldn't look right. |

Re: Red Death - Status...
Much like Gorilla glue.. which I would find to be very funny if you used it and saw the crap expand after a bit. Lol

Re: Red Death - Status...
The carpet stuff you were thinking about is called seam sealer. Carpet installers use it to glue carpet together. Buddy of mine is a carpet guy, told me a bit about it. Holds great, but he's not sure about naughahyde.

Forget the staples. Use a 16penny nail gun...lol
Can you take some pics of it? I am not sure what part of the dash you are talking about. The last 2nd gen I had was a 78 firechicken. Can't remember what the dash looked like.

Re: Red Death - Status...
It's the part that goes around the gauge bezel...
Don't have any pic's of that right now... but I'll have the finished pic's up over the weekend. Tried superglue, weldit, and one other thing ... the superglue actually worked so good that when I tried to pull it apart the vinyl separated from the backer! The other 2 are still setting up / drying so I'll find out tomorrow what I'm gonna use, but superglue sure surprised the shit out of me. Unless the other 2 somehow work better, that's what I'm going to use. When I do get around to redoing the interior for real... I'm going to do a photo step-by-step thing and post it up. Ski, yeah I figured that the carpet seam tape would only be good for materials that have the same rough back like carpet... but damn is that shit tough! |

Re: Red Death - Status...
i found generic works alright, its strong.. but the BEST BEST BEST superglue is the 3M- GEL type superglue.. its easy to apply, hard as hell, decently fast set time.. and actually re-usable when you uncap it a month down the line.. secret = use little dots/ little bit.. or let it sit for a really long time, if you use a lot.

Superglue is also amazing for closing wounds.

Re: Red Death - Status...
GOD DAMMIT! Stupid Naugas. Didn't work, couldn't get the naugahyde to stretch over the left hand side of the dash bezel, got glue all overthe whole thing and wound up ripping it all off. (I would have worked and really would have looked good if the dash didn't have as many bends in it. When I make my new dash, console and door panels in the spring I'm going to try it again.)
I got a good idea off of MP3Car.Com (carputer guys) and have to find the right stuff ... but it should be WAY easier. Get this... truck bed liner. The hard shiny kind, not the anti-skid kind. Already tried the A/S kind just to see if it even worth doing and it works great, but has a sand-ish finish to it. I'll put the gauges back in the bezel take pictures and try to get some that don't make RD look too bad and post them up tonight. I FREAKING PROMISE! (Wound up putting in a new return in the A/C last night, and then had like 20 other things to try and finish and never got around to it.) |
