Any ABS capable scan tool can read the codes to tell which hub sensor is bad.
A Tech II is not needed, some auto part stores do have ABS scan tools to check your car.

Can test for continuity through the hub sensors cicuit by checking the Ohms on the sensor side of the hub prongs.
I think it's around 1000 ohms...

Re: 2001 Alero - Trac, ABS, and Service Vehicle Soon

I had my car checked today at a GM dealer and told them of the problem, they got the tech II out and found no codes, what is causing the lights to come on is a failure in the cluster and it is about $700 to replace it

Ouch!
That price is probly the cost of a new cluster and the install, which is always high!

oh and thier probly was a code for the cluster circuit, just not a PO dtc.

Re: 2001 Alero - Trac, ABS, and Service Vehicle Soon

The Alero cluster is pretty easy to install yourself. It'll take you about 15 minutes, if you haven't done it before. You can also get one from a junkyard, you'll have to have your mileage transfered over to it though. Post if you decide to do that, I know a guy who might be able to transfer it. He works on Impala clusters, but they should be pretty much the same.

Its easy to install and your mileage is stored in the PCM.
You will probley need a relearn proceedure done after its installed, that should bring up the correct miles.

Good Luck

ps- lets keep this thread on topic , ABS not cluster work .
