Hi guys,

I've been working away in deepest darkest Germany for over 2 months but Im finally home again. Thanks for all your comments and following this build, I will be updating again over the next couple of days.
What have I missed? Im sure there will have been a whole bunch of outstanding builds - Dave and Steve you must have built at least 10 models while I've been away the speed you guys build! :-)

progress since I've got back...



added a few of the detail to the floor plan such as the rear anti-roll bar and compartments that sit behind the seats, also added the etched seat mounts and painted the top of the rear suspension struts and alu & gold with a little thinned black for weathering.



as for the under side, I decided there is little point taking any time on the engine as it will be completely covered by the white metal protection plate to this is as detailed as its going to get. There is no suspension mouldings in the kit and I again decided not scratch any as the amount of time and reworking it would take is not worth it me thinks



the heat protection is made from alu tape pressed onto an small file to give it the textured look. The weathering & heat staining on the exhaust was done using Tamiya's weathering kits plus a little blue and red dry brushing.



The roll cage went together very well however I soldered this just to give it a little extra strength, this was then sprayed and the padding picked out in matt grey, more weathering added using washes of black and dry brushing with white.



Wheels are pretty straightforward, a little clean up and then a coat of 'Racing White' all decals went on a dream and I added the usual wash of black for weathering. I will pick out the bolts in alu and then give the tyres a coat of matt - job done! I have chosen not to add the vents which this car ran on the tarmac stages as I think they look plain ugly!







finally the bodyshell is finished, the pics make it look a little matt however the finish is really nice, I will take a pic in daylight tomorrow which should improve it somewhat. Masking was extremely time consuming and took up almost a whole roll of Tamiya tape itself, however Im glad its done and out of the way and it all looks pretty neat and tidy.

Very nice progress.I like the heat shielding,I'll have to try that for myself on the next rally model I make.As for the wheel vent things being ugly

Yes, that foil trick is an excellent idea. Good to see some updates on this. Nice subtle weathering on the rollcage padding too.
