Re: Supercar of the 90's - Making of Ferrari F50
UPDATE!
Ok, before continuing with the build, I wanted to make sure I do one thing right, other wise I might as well stop building it....rear grille! After about an hour with a fret saw I had this: ![]() Then afte about two hours with needle files, sanding sticks and knife I had this: ![]() then I bent the mesh, and after that it was a piece of cake! Taillight assemblies didn't quite fit but slight trimming of the base helped to set them inside the housing: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Exhausts were cleaned, assembled and weathered with MM Aluminum, Burnt metal, then Alclad Gold plate, then tamiya clear red and orange. ![]() ![]() Fans were drilled out, and replaced by Crazy Modeler stuff - pretty neat desgn, even though front fans are absolutely wrong, I left it as is. Oil cooler and AC radiator look very good. I added some plumbing - Detail Master braided hoses, Sakatsu fittings, some wire...I like the fact that they are hoolow and you can see through them! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kevlar decal for the dash was photocopied and transferred to SMS decals sheet, then cut out, holes were made with hole punch. Decal was applied to the dash, then everything clearcoated, masked and sprayed with a mix of tamiya german gray (X-20?) and violet (X-16), then detailed. ![]() ![]() Brakes were assembled from CM set - another great design and execution. I used kit bosses for the rotors to simplify assembly and ensure good fit. Need paint now. ![]() ![]() Rear inside fenders were covered with kevlar, rear with MFH shielding material. ![]() More soon! Cool fan assemblies!
You had better luck with that rear grille than Andy IIRC his clear part broke into a trilliion pieces :[

Re: Supercar of the 90's - Making of Ferrari F50
Now that is nice! Is that the rear mesh/grille that comes in the CM etch kit? If so, I might finally build my F50. After reading Andy's troubles I was leery. But, CM has easily become my source for the best etch out there.

Re: Supercar of the 90's - Making of Ferrari F50
Nicely done.
I have to admit I've been curious to see how you'd fare. I never would have thought to try mounting it on the outside. Is this what CM recommends in their instruction sheet? Should really be smooth sailing from here.

Re: Supercar of the 90's - Making of Ferrari F50
That is really really good and inspiring work! I love the fans, they look stunning aswell as the rear grill. I would have messed up the clear grill part for sure...
Can't wait for the next pics opcorn:
