yep, the dealership confirmed that the regulator in the altenator was broke, and they are now replacing the whole unit

so i guess it was internal after all. glad you got your prob fixed, and hopefully pointed some other guys in the right direction as well.

P11GT............I see from your list of mods youve got a after market silencer.Where did you get it and how much,I've also got a 1998 GT and have been looking for an inexpensive back box for a better sound only.There is nothing wrong with my standard back box,just thought if I could find a cheap replacement the I can stash the original in the loft ready for when I sell the car.Been quoted £180 so far (to much just for a sexy noise) "must be getting old"

The dealers checked it out and said it was the alternator, but after stipping it out, they would only get it fixed. But upon further inspection, the alternator was working fine. Theyve now reinstalled it and it seems to be working ok. Tempermental i think.
