The Fiero is an awesome sports car, and has scads of performance potential.

The original Z24 Cavalier had a 3.1 liter MPF V6. A direct swap in is the 3400TDC, which has potential for nearly 300 hp... The Fiero shares the same basic drivetrain as the 3.1 Z24 cavalier, and the 3400TDC is a direct bolt in installation too.

Hey Redneck, check out this link

http://www.pelkie.com/fiero

Go to dual exhaust, remap the fuel and ignition(get a chip, for the ricer contingent), port and polish and this engine will make a happy 275hp. If anyone wants to build a Ferrari replica on a Fiero, use this engine. It's like a 6 cylinder Ferrari engine.

As for the Cavalier, you can bolt in all sorts of engines, but the easiest thing to do, would be to pick up a turbo sunbird from a wreckers...

Ok....up until 94 you could have the Cavalier with a 2.4L 4 banger.....Z-24's came with a 2.8 L V6 or 3.1L v6......i know this because my friend has owned 2 Z-24's...and knows alot about them....and loves them

Oops, forgot to mention! The Fiero GT shares the drivetrain with the EARLY Z24! The later Z24s used the 4 cylinder, and had less torque.

I meant to say the early Z24 used the 2.8, and later it was stroked to a 3.1

Anyhow, the Turbo Sunbird engine has a fair bit of potential...

I like the fiero too at one time someone made a 305 conversion for them you could do that but instead put in a 350 (they are the same size) and the aftermarket for a 350 is huge! if you have a lot of money you could super charge it or just throw some spray at it (or both ) after that you could get some Eibach's or some other companies performance springs and some good shocks. then a pair of 17's with some BFG g force kdws's or other performance tire. that car would kick ass in a straight line and in the turns. plus in a car that light you could run fairly mild gears and fuel inject the 350 and probibly still make 25-30mpg

Yes, a number of people make V8 conversions for Fieros. The best known is V8 Archie in Chicago, he's been doing these since the 80s

I'd rather have the 3400TDC, because it's more of a sports car engine... really high revving, lots of horsepower, but enough displacement to give it nice torque.

I don't think the 3800 V6 would fit in the Cav. would it, anyway i would much rather have have the 2.4 ltre. Z24 than some sh#$$* ass 115 hp civic, the Z24 packs 150 HP then add 30-50% more horsepower getting it supercharged and you have one heck of an import killer. Wave bye bye to that pretty S2000

The buick isn't any bigger than the 60 degree, so I'm pretty sure you could fit one in there. OTHO, why? The cav isn't that light, and the engine would be much more at home in the Fiero anyways, it's got better handling and can put the power down a lot easier.

Supercharged series 2 buicks are common swaps for the Fiero, and it really wakes the car up. The reason I prefer the 3400TDC is because it's a larger V6 version of the quad 4, or a smaller more rev happy version of the Northstar, take your pick.

Building one to do 8000 rpm isn't much of a chore, and they make 300hp at that level. The 3.4 DOHC engine was planned as the replacement F body engine in the late 80s, but same story with the SVO Mustang, us ironheads wanted V8s

A V8 belongs in a Camaro, but a really smooth high revving engine like the 3400 TDC belongs in a sports car, not a W-body

You do realize you've just started a flame war.

The term rice means different things to different people. To some, it means any imported car, specifically Japanese cars.

To others, it means any modified import, specifically Japanese.

But to most, the term "rice" means modifying the car to look fast, when it is not fast. For instance, giant spoilers, that don't do anything. Heavy, non functional body kits that emulate race cars, or at least race car themes(huge air scoops that do nothing). Often rice is lowered, through the means of cheap or cut coils, to achieve that "race car" look.

I have a 2000 Cavalier, 2.2L l4. Without doing an engine swap, what would its possibilities be in 1/4 mile time? Its an automatic. I know it wouldnt be fast or anything but im just curious as if I should put any money into the engine at all or just go for audio and looks. I would start with intake/exhaust, the basics. But I dont feel like wasting $300 dollars on those parts if its not worth it at all. I dont go to the track and do legit 1/4 mile racing at all, I was just looking for a little more quickness for street racing. From what it sounds like, its probably not worth doing anything to the engine and ill probably just go with audio/exterior looks. Any feedback is greatly appreciated(Except those import only guys who will tell me to get a civic, ya I like civics, but im not getting one right now :bandit: )

Why would you want to keep the engine? It is made by Opel. The engine is the problem, and I would say, don't waste you time hopping up the Cav.
