with "proper" parts and building, you can get a 6" stroke engine to rev to 9K+. The point is....how money you got? How much power do you want to make?

That would result in a mean piston of 9000 feet per minute. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I don't think anyone has EVER done that. I can't imagine what the cam would look like to sustain that either. The cams would be open for so long that you'd need a second engine just to spin it fast enough to start. F1 motors spin to 5200 ft/min, and NASCAR engines spin to 5600 ft/min. Quarter mile dragsters range from 5500 to 8000 ft/min.

Let's try that again.

you're going to weld up the diff for a 50/50 torque split?

good luck with the tight low-speed turns. squealing and skipping inside tyre.

Re: Strokers

you have to turn around at the end of the track.

you will have to make turns. and when you do, you'll get the inside tyres squealing and skipping.

I would like to echo what Kevin pointed out... the order of strength in the SBC world goes like this: 2-bolt, then 4-bolt, then (strongest) 2-bolt modified for 4 bolts. The 2-bolt blocks have more meat down south.

pine valley raceway has a long sweeping turn around, and i wont be going any faster then 10 or 15 mph, thats exactly what i did to my 85 el camino (for the strip) and i have had no problems

so what? People weld their diffs for drag racing all the time. They know they won't be turning, and they don't care about ever turning efficiently. A welded diff is often stronger than a more expensive limited slip anyway, and the welded diff doesn't have to start slipping before the load is re-transferred.

I like turning, but I'm not complaining about the drag guys. They're having fun, and a lot of them are good at what they do.

Re: Strokers

it will bind, but with large sidewall drag tires, it should be ok

they have been doing it for years and years with no problems

Re: Strokers

i'm just not a fan of welding a diff. seems a very crude solution to me.

Re: Strokers

having the strongest rear end possible isn't crude. "simple" answers are sometimes teh best, as long as you know the limitations that go with it.

Drag race only car won't care one bit about the limitations though, so there's no real disadvantages

Re: Strokers

I agree. I did the same for my stroker motor.
