Oh did I mention the airport killed my laptop on my way back from California?

Re: Graphics card problems...

define 'killed'

that sounds a bit extreme, no?

i mean you can't take a lighter or anything, but just the other day i had a book of matches that i dumped into a tray with my keys and such and they didn't bat an eye. i didn't alert them to the oversight, but i don't think they were supposed to do that...

but a laptop? with the word 'kill' you conjure up images of them like pulling out a sledge hammer and making ninja sounds. at least in my head.

Re: Graphics card problems...

First of all, is it PCI Express 16x? Or is it PCI... because if its PCI u need to send it back and get a new one... those are really REALLY outdated and a lot of newer drivers like codecs for videos will not work properly

We already covered the fact it is regular PCI. And yes that interface is junk for video cards. If you read the whole thread you would see he dosn't have any other slots.

Brian take the card back to Best Buy and exchange it for another. I have a feeling the card just died on you for some reason.

And by the way Mikelb...PCI-X is the way to go, AGP is old and they no longer make new cards for that interface...not to mention what few decent cards they do make for it are much more expensive than their PCI-X counterparts.

Re: Graphics card problems...

What kind of computer doesn't come with an AGP or PCI-X slot? Brian you got shafted bad on that one. You absolutely sure you're looking at the right thing? I've sold computers for years and when I left 9 months ago, no computers came without either of the the 2. Shit, they were only coming with 2-3 PCI slots. Somethings not right here. Not right at all. Are you sure it's a PCI and not a PCI-X? If you bought the wrong card, I believe they do actually fit IIRC, but that may be causing the problem. Can we get a pic of that mother board? This doesn't seem right, son.

A friend of mine has a Dell that's 3-4 years old that only has 2 PCI slots. Nothing else. I about shit a brick when I went to upgrade his video and had to tell him to buy a PCI card...

Re: Graphics card problems...

See, that's why I don't buy Dells. EVER. I hate Dells with a passion. Everyone I know that has had one has nothing but problems. My school (well, ex-school now) used Dells and Macs, but these were all top end machines. We had dual cores in them before the public had them. But, they get replaced everyother 3 years or so, same with the Macs. So they're not around to see any problems.

Re: Graphics card problems...

Uhh, the PCI-x cards definetly do not fit. Trust me, thats what I came home with the first time and I cracked it open and was like wtf!!! So yeah... I'm not sure what the deal is but I've come up with a better solution. I'm taking back my video card and my extra 2gig of ram and just saying the hell with it for now... I have a much better deal coming my way now here very soon for a very nice price.

Thank you for the attempts though guys.
