But I also get peeved at people thinking that a civic could beat a gts-t :P (I'm kidding around here, but you get my point)

Yeah there are some people out there who take things a little too far.

I get your point! :finger: (j/k)

actualy on paper both cars produce almost exactly the same 0-100 and 1/4 times. (im talking my EF9 SiR, an EG6 or EK6 SiR/VTiR is slower)
In reality it all comes down to driver skill, and if that particular piece of road suits that particular car. Forunatly a lot of Skylines are bought by people who care more about image than knowing how to drive.
(you don't buy a Civic to look cool, you buy a civic becasue its cheap to own and run) (you buy a skyline becasue it has one of the worlds best 6cly engines up frount, and as far as Japanese cars go is quite unique in being an inline six, RWD thats affordable, and becasue some people like the image it has)

At the moment almost every single friday I see two cars.

Ones a bright yellow EF Civic sedan, with the almighty twin carb 1300 under the hood. The car looks like it escaped from some bad 80s cartoon. It just manages to squek the frount tyres. in the wet.
Then there is a grey GTE skyline with the number plate "LOWSKY". It matchs the plate in having the springs removed. The truck literaly goes round corners faster. (I know, I followed it round a corner in the truck and it started hopping and skipping with the tyres squealing.)

Some of them could. Namely ALLMTR Chuck and a couple of the Turbo Civics running around. Hopefully my ITR -> 5th gen civic project can

Oh, did I mention shut up? hehe. No seriously, look at the budgets for each car. My project can be built for under $30k Aus.

Actualy there is one thing Honda can lord above not only all other Japanese Manufactors, but also most of the worlds manufactors.

Its thier F1 Success.
While Nissan is busy playing with thier GTR Skyline, doing ok at Le Mans and dominating the JGTC, Honda has become the 2nd most succesful manufactor to enter in F1. 2nd only to Ferrari.
And occasinaly some of that F1 experiance and knowledge seeps into thier road cars.

I'll bet almost anything that's true in the countries that got the Skyline...but over here almost every kid that's played Gran Turismo but knows nothing about cars will be very offensive about letting you know that every Skyline in the world is a god car.

This phrase too, I'm willing to bet is true in almost every country except here. All the "mallflower" guys (as I call them, the guys you see hanging around in malls and doing ANYTHING (and/or copying ANYBODY) to look cool) seem to think even a base Civic is the extreme form of looking cool on the road. Heck, Civics are even starting to replace lowriders and Ferraris in rap videos.....

Maybe in canadian rap video's, our homies like Jermaine Dupri and Luda won't let us down. You can always count on Jay-Z to floss up and down this mother!

Skylines and Civics do suck

my skyline project is budgeted for under $30 NZ, and when I'm done it should outperform a standard or slighty modded GT-R.

It wouldn't be easy trying to get a civic to out perform it when it's done.

Of course there are better cars out there than the Skyline, but for what we pay for them over here, they’re a damn good car for the price. Start modfiying a turbo model and you can have some pretty serious power.

Yeah, but that's the point. NZ get's Skylines (and Civics) MUCH cheaper than Australia. Our GTS-T Skylines start at about $23k for a good one, our R33 Skyline GT-Rs are about $50k+ and R34 GT-Rs are $120k+. My Civic is $10k for the car, $8k for the ITR swap and $12k for the rest (interior, stereo, rims, etc.)

True, but the price difference isn't as bad as it used to be. When Raf bought his R33 he paid $22,000 for it. The equivalent model in Oz at the time was $38,000. Now the differences aren't so great. I paid $18,000 for mine and an equivalent in Oz is now about $24,000.

I hear what everyone is saying and you all seem to agree every car has its merits and its pitfalls. And some packages are easier to bundle up in terms of budget etc.

But getting back to Heep's original point the ill-informed, the fanatical and the plain lame folk (one of which seem to have wandered in here) form these really strong opinions about things (like a political party) and their faith won't be shaken in spite of the rational arguments that are put forth...

sigh

And BTW Moppie - don't speculate on my sex life (j/k)
