Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
Yeah, a lot... Use the 6 bolt stuff for that. It'll be easier... I would never do any "trimming" on my water pump. The only thing I had to do some trimming on was the 7 bolt motor mount...
Here's the difference between a 1g and 2g motor mount and what needs trimmed with the red line. ![]() Sorry, I don't have a good picture of the timing stuff without the cover on to show you the differences...

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
I have already trimmed the mount. Not enough though. I still have to take off another mm or 2 to get the water pump to fit. I'll prolly sell the 2g arm on ebay and buy the 1g arm at the same time.

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
There still seems to be a couple more issues. Anyone know how to fill a hole then retap it? This hole on the water pump on the bottom is twice the size as the one on the left.

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
Are you using a 1g or 2g water pump?

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
The only way I know how to fill a hole and retap it is welding it shut then drilling and tapping it. Thats how i've always done it. Dad owns a machine shop so its easy to get my hands on the right equipment too.

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
My dad has a thousand tools in his garage, but that doesnt mean he has the right ones I need. I did purchase the 1g water pump but if you look at the hole on the left, it is the regular M8 size, where as the hole that doesnt even look circular, is slightly larger than an M10 with no threads. The holes on the new pump are all the same size and there is no way a larger bolt will fit. I am not going to destroy the pump and void the warranty and I dont want to modify anything else and risk it leaking. how should it be welded shut?

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
i found that cast iron is hard to weld properly, but jb weld can be used to fill iron. it says up to 600ºF. i hope my engine never gets that hot. fill it, drill it, tap it. Has anyone else done this?

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
Aren't the water pumps made out of aluminum, and not cast? IIRC, the blocks are cast, but the water pump, oil pump, and all that shit is aluminum.

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
I also thought the pump was aluminum...because the blocks are definatly cast iron...

Re: 2G eclipse with a 6 bolt motor
i was referring to filling the hole in the block, in the picture i posted on here the other day. i need to fill 1 of the 5 holes on the block then retap it so the water pump has the chance at making a good seal.
